was the setting for a jewel pin
ceremony for Gamma Xi chapter of
Epsilon Sigma Alpha on Thursday,
March 20.
In a candlelight ceremony, Presi-
dent Kim Floerke presented pledges
Gayle DeAmico and Pat King with
their jewel pins and a bouquet of
fresh flowers, including ESA’s floral
symbol, the yellow jonquil.

Michael Baldwin Completes
Equipment Specialist Course
Pvt. Michael J. Baldwin, son of
Thomas and Janie Baldwin of 123
Sabine and a 1984 G-PHS graduate,
has completed an equipment storage
specialist course at the U.S. Army
Quartermaster School, Fort Lee,
Va.

Amy Tunnell, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. William Tunnell of 107 Frio,
recently was named “Model of the
Year" by Models and
Photographers of America. Tun-
nell, a 1984 graduate of Gregory-
Portland High School, is employed
by World of Fitness. Her

Gaspar Gomez, a Corpus Christi
police officer, who was named
"Photographer of the Year" by the

McIntire, Syma
Co-Chairmen
For Clements
Charles McIntire, formerly of
Portland and now of Aransas Pass,
and Mary Syma of Taft have been
named the San Patricio County co-
chairmen for the re-election cam-
paign of Bill Clements, the Clements
campaign organization announced
last week.
McIntire and Syma will direct the
organizational efforts in San
Patricio County. Persons interested
in working on the Clements cam-
paign should call Syma at 1-528-3009.

Jennifer Jones, 11, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. C.A. "Andy" Jones,
formerly of Portland and now of
Idaho Falls, Idaho, and grand-
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.T.
Jones of Portland, received
several awards in the Junior Miss
Drill Pageant held March 1 at
Blackfoot, Idaho. Jennifer, a
member of the Eastern Idaho
Stars, placed first in drill-down
competition for skill and concen-
tration and fourth in individual
dance.

Maundy Thursday
Members of the First United
Methodist Church will participate in
a Maundy Thursday service this
week as part of the congregation’s
Easter observance.
The 7:30 p.m. service will begin
with a symbolic Passover meal,
which will be followed by Holy Com-
munion.
Sunday services at the First
United Methodist Church will be
preceded by a 9 o’clock Easter
breakfast for members of the con-
gregation in the fellowship hall. Sun-
day School begins at 9:30 with morn-
ing worship following at 10:45
o’clock.
Church members have been asked
to bring Easter lilies to decorate the
altar as well as flowers to fill the
church cross for the morning Easter
service.
Sunday Breakfast
Members of Oak Ridge Baptist
Church will share a breakfast Sun-
day preceding Easter services at the
church.
Following the 8 a.m. breakfast,
Sunday School will meet at 9:30 with
morning worship following at 10:45
o’clock.
Hunger Walk
Thirteen parishioners from Im-
maculate Conception Catholic
Church took part Sunday in the 10-
kilometer CROP Hunger Walk at
Cole Park, Corpus Christi, raising
approximately $300 in pledges.
A worldwide community project,
the Hunger Walk will aid the needy,
with 75 percent of the money going
toward relief of worldwide hunger,
while the other 25 percent goes
. toward the Corpus Christi food bank.

Alvardo, Angelita Saenz, Viola
Guerra, Armando Perez, Norma
Perez, Nerisa Perez, Rachel
Lozano, Carolina Rodriquez, Augie

vigil Mass at 8 p.m. Saturday as part
of the church’s Easter observance.
In addition, the church will
celebrate a Holy Thursday Mass at 7
p.m. and will observe Good Friday
with services at noon and at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, Easter services will be
observed at 7 and 10 a.m. and at
noon.
Also, the movie, “The Greatest
Story Ever Told,” will be shown at 8
p.m. Friday for youths grade seven
and up and for adults.
The three-hour film tells the story
of Jesus’ life. A 25-cent donation is
being requested from each member
of the audience to cover the cost of
renting the film.
Resurrection Sunday
Grace Baptist Church, 611 College
St., will celebrate Easter with
special worship services, a Bap-
tismal service and a fellowship din-
ner on Sunday.
Sunday School services begin at
9:45 a.m. with the mowing service
following at 11 o’clock.
Following the morning worship,
the church will hold a Baptismal ser-
vice and fellowship dinner, using the
facilities of Trinity Baptist Church
on Lang Road.

Stylists at Ed’s Hair Designs
recently attended a seminar in San
Antonio.
Featured guest artists Edwardo
Castillo of Houston, the national
hairstylist champion, and James
Young of Longview, who received
the cosmetologist of the year award,
taught sessions in coloring, cutting,
perms and the newest hair styles.
After the ceremony, new
members were honored at a dinner
at Gallagher’s Restaurant, Corpus
Christi, where member Gayle Ray
joined the celebration.
VFW Post
The Portland organizing chapter
of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
this week received notice that it
has received a charter from the na-
tional organization.
The local group has 25 members
required to form a chapter and will
be formed as Post 9783, according
to Marcial Besinaiz, the Portland
veteran who began organization ef-
forts.
Besinaiz said Gregory-Portland
veterans who fought in-World War
I or II, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada
or Lebanon are eligible to join the
post or to transfer from another
area post.

necessary forms at 215 Ghent.
“We appreciate all the support
we’ve received from so many peo-
ple just to get this charter and the
initial 25 members,” Besinaiz said.
