Introduction to the Microcom-
puter This course offers advanced
academic training credit if approv-
ed by TEA. Instructor Cynthia Mid-
dlebrooks will teach the 18-hour
course from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and
Thursday nights beginning June 3
and continuing through June 19 in
the high school vocational building
VOE room.
The class will provide a non-
technical introduction to the basic
concepts and terminology of
microcomputers, hardware and
software. In addition, students will
learn the uses of computers and will
perform basic computer operating
procedures. They will develop suffi-
cient keyboarding skills for use of
software, use commercial software
packages in a variety of applications
and demonstrate skills for data en-
try.

Lori Pridgen will teach this 18-hour
class from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and
Thursdays (although the final class
will continue until 9 p.m.) in the high

June 24. It is designed to teach a
knowledge of camera types, parts
and functions; students also learn
about film speeds, functions and
developing procedures. The class
also will teach students to plan,
shoot and print high quality photos.
Cost is $25 for residents, $30 for
non-residents, plus a $3 registration
fee and a $2 lab fee.

weeks at T.M. Clark Elementary
School were announced this week by
Pat McDonald, principal.

earned grades of 90 or above in all
areas.

high school auto mechanics

Students will learn servicing the
automobile, engine theory, elec-
trical theory and electrical services.
Cost is $25 for residents, $30 for
non-residents, plus a $3 registration
fee and a $2 lab fee.

teach correct usage and procedures
for indexing, coding and filing using
the alphabetic, numeric, subject and

employs the touch system for com-
putation of simple mathematical
problems using the electronic
calculator.
The 18-hour class will be taught by
Ann Bishop and will meet from 6-9
p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, July
29-Aug. 14, in the high school voca-
tional building VOE classroom.
Cost is $25 for residents, $30 for
non-residents, plus a $3 registration
fee.
Pre-registration may be made by
mail or at the central office ad-
ministration building in Gregory.
Registration forms are available at
the administration building, all
schools and the Portland News of-
fice.
In addition, a registration table
will be set up at the high school main
building from 4:30-6 p.m. Monday,
June 2, for those people who could
not pre-register.
At least 10 students must register
for each class or the class will be
cancelled. Full refunds will be made
if a class is cancelled due to insuffi-
cient enrollment.
No refunds will be issued after the
second class meeting and a $10 ser-
vice charge will be deducted for
other refunds prior to the second
class. ,

Chemistry Teams Win At Texas A&l
Gregory-Portland High School’s
chemistry team won second-place
overall at the Texas A&I Chemistry
Day competition recently.
The Chemistry I team won its
competition by a landslide while the
Chemistry II team won fourth place.
Both scores combined gave G-P the
first-place trophy for team competi-
tion in Division One.
Members of the Chemistry I team
included Paul Gidden, Anne Marie

G-PISD officials this week an-
nounced the schedule for this sum-
mer’s inaugural community educa-
tion program.
Director of Secondary Education
Will McDonald said the program
schedule was developed through the
efforts of M.S. DeGaish, community
education director for G-PISD.
“On behalf of the board of trustees
and Superintendent Jim Hall, I
would like to thank Mr. DeGaish for
his work,” McDonald noted.
McDonald also noted the program
would not be possible without the
participation of teachers who will
work with the program.
