By Rachel Gross Weinstein
June 23 will be a special day for
the Jewish community — that’s
the day young adults will unite to
volunteer at various organizations
to help make the community a
better place.
Mitzvah Day, hosted by the
Young Adult Division of the Jew-
ish Federation of Greater Dallas,
will take place this Sunday, and
volunteers will lend their hands to
different sites throughout the me-
troplex. The last young adult Mitz-
vah Day was in September 2010,
though the federation hosted a
community-wide Mitzvah Day for
its centennial celebration in Octo-
ber 2011.
Coming together for a day of
performing mitzvot is power-
ful, said Lindsay Bendorf, who is
co-chairing the event with Jaycee
Greenblatt. It provides a way for
everyone to perform good deeds
and see what each organization has

to offer, she said.
“I’ve always thought it was im-
portant for the young Dallas Jew-
ish community to do our part and
spread some good throughout the
community,” Bendorf said. “We
are setting the example for the next
generation and it’s meaningful for
us to come together and help others
so this can continue in the future.”
Mitzvah Day is divided into two
shifts — one from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
and the other from 1 to 3 p.m. —
in order to fit everyone’s schedule,
Bendorf said. It is geared for those
ages 21-40, but everyone is wel-
come to attend.
During the morning shift, peo-
ple will volunteer at a held day for
the Jewish Special Athletics Club
(JSAC), a Leadership Development
Group project benehtting Vogel
Alcove, the Jewish Family Service
Resale Shop and a project with
Temple Emanu-EI and Vickery
Meadow.
