DALLAS — The Jewish
Community Relations Council
(JCRC) of the Jewish Federation
of Greater Dallas brought over
40 Jewish parents with children
in the Frisco Independent School
District (FISD) together Tuesday,
Feb. 16 to meet one another,
learn about the JCRC’s Education
Initiative and hear from FISD
leadership.
“It was so powerful to see
so many Jewish people from
Frisco in one room,” said Debbie
Rajunov, host of the program. “I
never knew there were that many
Jews living here,” she added.
The JCRC Education Initiative
works with Jewish public school
families in the Greater Dallas area
and offers educational materials
about Jews, Judaism and Israel
to parents and educators as well
as support to parents dealing
with difficult situation such as
scheduling conflicts on holidays
and Shabbat and anti-Israel
or anti-Semitic instances on
campus.
The parents heard from
Anne McCausland, president
of the Frisco ISD School Board
and Dr. Jeremy Lyon, Frisco
ISD’s superintendent of schools.
They spoke about the rapid
growth in Frisco and the school
district’s attempts to create an
environment that makes all
students feel respected and safe.
Parents had the opportunity to
share stories and concerns about
their children’s experiences as
Jewish students in public school.
“Being a Jewish student in
public school in Frisco, Texas is
challenging. My children have
encountered some anti-Semitism
and I was glad to have the chance
to bring it to the attention of the
