Using the
framework —
his speech into “shevach (praise),
bakashot (requests) and hoda’ot
(gratitude)” — Laye outlined
19 points covering the gamut of
Jewish communal life.
“I am a lover of Israel. I am a
Zionist. I hope you are too,” he
said. “Like with all serious love
affairs, there will be times when
your partner disappoints you. You
still love him. That is the difference
between love and like. Love Israel
with me.”
He encouraged everyone in the

‘Joyful giving’ is something you
wish for everyone to experience
regardless of the capacity or level
of your gift. You should never
think your gift does not matter to
this Federation,” he said.
Federation President and CEO
Bradley Laye followed Kreditor’s
remarks with his own “state of
the Federation” address, which
has become his custom since he
assumed the post six years ago.
Laye will exit the Federation July
31 and Mariam Shpeen Feist will
assume the organization’s helm

“Help us do more to address
the most pressing needs and take
advantage of the most exciting
opportunities our community has.
We have proven ourselves with
communal security, and we will
do so with Connecting Dallas, our
outreach initiative. Yet, there is so
much more we can and should be
doing.”
And, he thanked the
Federation’s professional staff and
volunteers for their team effort.
“To the multitudes of lay leaders,
professional colleagues and clergy
from across this community, your
camaraderie, friendship, advice
and partnership has been one of
the most revelatory and exciting
opportunities of my time here.
I have sought rabbinic counsel
and always received incredible
wisdom. I have asked for help
from agency colleagues and in
turn provided it and always, we
both had the best interest of each
other and the community at heart.
The volunteers who make this
community strong and vibrant
inspire me every day.”
Following his remarks, Laye
introduced a special Broadway
tribute to Kreditor, whose love for
musical theater is legendary.

The Federation and its

and professional leadership and

expected to be record-setting.
The evening’s honorees received

Haymann, vice chair; Michael
Newman, vice chair; Neil
Beckerman, secretary; Kevin
Pailet, treasurer; and Nate Levine,
of counsel.
Before the slate of officers
passed, outgoing Board Chair
Mark Kreditor shared the
highlights of his two-year tenure.
A focus for him was reaching out
to more Jewish newcomers to the
area and the unengaged.
“We slowly and very
strategically took on outreach and
engagement with the launching of
‘Connecting Dallas.’”
Kreditor applauded the
Federation’s professional staff for
its unparalleled stewardship of its
donors’ resources.
“I saw firsthand how much
the trust of our donors and the
efficiency and effectiveness of our
impact leads this organization and
we should all be very proud of that
fact.”
Kreditor emphasized that
philanthropy is something to be
enjoyed regardless of the amount
of a gift.
“My simple observations on
philanthropy and giving are that
