How To Get Into Christ
"Know yet not, that so many of
us as were baptized Into Jesus
Christ were baptized into his
death?” (Romans 8:3).
“For ye are all the children of
God by faith in Christ Jesus. For
as many of you as have been bap-
tized into Christ have put on
Christ." (Galatians 338,27). This
shows that baptism is an act
faith.

Now notice Luke’s account of
this charge the risen, Jesus gave to
hi* disciples. “And he said unto
them, Thus it is written, and thus
It behoved Christ to suffer, and to
rise from the dead the third day:
and that repentance and remis-
sion of sins should be preached in
his name among all nations, be-
ginning at Jerusalem." (Luke 24:-
48,47). Thus the Lord connects
'repentance and remission of sins.
No onq can have remission of sins
(taking away of sns) who doesn’t
repent. The apostle Paus tells us,
"godly sorrow worketh repentance
to salvation.” (II Corinthians 7:-
10). It takes sorrow toward God
to bring about repentance to sal-
vation. A sinner must become sor-

men It seems foolish that any one
would consider baptism a condi-
tion for receiving remission of sins.
Baptism would be foolish if It
were the Invention of man, but
is is a command of God. "But the
natural man receiveth not , the
things of the Spirit of God: for
they are foolishness unto him." (I
Corinthian* 2:14.) We aro told that
any one should know that an act
like baptism could not possibly do
any good toward obtaining salva-
tion. We all know that marching
around the walls of a city would
do no good toward making them
fall; nevertheless, Joshua did not
reason that way. He obeyed the
command to, receive the promise.
God said the walls feU by faith,

no wisdom in baptism indicate*
that it is purely an act of faith.

ness.
We have seen that when an alien
sinner by faith repents of his sins,
confesses his faith in Christ, and
is baptized in the name of Christ
for the remission of sin* he to then

relationship to God. He to then a

God as his Advocate to make In-

When a Christian sins he must
truly repent and ask forgiveness
of the Father in th* name of his

the thought of thine heart may

Forgiveness Is In Christ
Speaking of Christ, the Son.
Paul says, “In whom we have
redemption through his blood, ev-
en the forgiveness of sins.” (Colos-
sians 1:14).
Of course, these passages do not
teach that baptism only is requir-
ed to put one into Christ. God in
many places tells us that faith and
repentance are essential. We must
not take what God says in one
passage and refuse what He says
in others. That is what people do
who quote passages on faith and
declare that there cannot be any
other condition except believing.
When a sinner acting by genuine
faith repent* of his sins, confesses
Christ, and obeys the command of
baptism for the remission of his
sins, the barrier is taken away and
he is in Christ. Since baptism is
the last act of obedience in meet-
ing the conditions of God by faith
these passages speak of being
“baptized into Christ.”
Lost sinner, you have the answer
of God to your great question.
Heed not the teaching of men be-
cause your eternal salvation is at
stake. Obey God in true faith and
have the assurance of God’s own
promise. ,
“Ye have purified your souls in
obeying the truth.” (I Peter 1:22).
“He became the author of eter-
nal salvation unto all them that
obey him.” (Hebrews 5:9).
"We received grace and apostle-
ship, unto obedience of faith a-
mong all the nations, for his name’s
sake.” (Romans 1:5, Revised Ver-
sion).

In telling us what to do to be
saved God has used statements so
simple and straightforward that
all can understand. He would sure-
ly not have used such statements
if He did not want us to accept
exactly what He said. Men greatly
err when they teach that the sin-
ner, in order to be saved, does
not have to meet all the condi-
tions given hi such passages

the second chapter of Acts and see
that Peter and the others preach-
ed Jesus crucified, buried, raised,
and exalted. Then, he" called upon
the people to “know assuredly,
that God had made that same
Jesus, whom ye have crucified,
both Lord and Christ. Now when
they heard this, they were prick-
ed in their heart, and said unto
Peter and to the rest of the apos-
tles, Men and brethren, what shall
we do? Then Peter said unto
them, Repent, and be baptized ev-
ery one of you in the name of
Jesus Christ for the remission of
sins, and ye shall receive the gift
of the Holy Ghost." (Acts 2:36-38).
The Revised Version reads, “unto
the remission of your sins,"
stead of, “for the remission
sin.” Both readings mean

God. That sorrow will cause him
to make the firm decision in hto
heart that, by the help of the
Lord, he will turn from the prac-
tice of sin and serve God because
he loves God. Even if a sinner has
reformed he has not repented to-
ward God unless he wishes in his
soul that he had never sinned
and earnestly desires to not
again.
These are the

We notice another condition.
The Spirit of God says, “For with
the heart man belleveth unto
righteousness and with the mouth
confession is made unto salva-
tion.” (Romans 10:10). We must
acknowledge our faith in Christ
as the Son of God. A sinner can-
not be saved who is ashamed of
the Lord.
The First Gospel Sermon
Jesus told His disciples tn wait
in Jerusalem until the power of
the Holy Spirit came to guide
them. (See the last chapter of
Luke and the « first chapter of
Acts). This power came on the
first Pentecost after the crucifix-
ion, and the apostles began imme-
diately to carry Out the charge
