DAY.
WE MUST BUILD OUR FIRST MEETING
HOUSE IN THE WORLD'S GREATEST CITY. How
could the Lord forgive us if we don’t?
This building is not to be a cathedral or a gigantic
monument of pride. It will seat in the neighborhood of
only 500 but because of the tremendous cost of ground-
more than $125.000—and rhe very rigid building restrictions
imposed by the Citv of New York, it will require in
the neighborhood of one million dollars to erect a building
just adequate.
No, we are not trying to out do the Catholics tor
if we were, one million dollars would be just chicken feed.

street in Nashville to discover a gaping hole where once there
had been a building Someone had come by with a wrecking
crew and power equipment and carried it away in piles or

much better to be constructive and helpful
A Mother Is an Example

While reading this passage my mind went immediately to
the person of Brother G. C. Brewer. I thought about those
last weeks and months that Brother Brewer lived in which he
looked back over his lifetime
his three score years and ten. and he knew that he could
live very many more months. There must have been times,
he wrote his autobiography, when he lived again some of the
things he had accomplished for Christ.

LET'S GET BEHIND MANHATTAN
Brother A. M. Burton’s proposal for congregations to
give one-half of June 30th contributions toward the erec-
tion of a building on Manhattan Island offers a very prac-
tical plan for (jetting this important and difficult job done.
It is hoped that a thousand congregations will participate
in this effort to do what must be done.
Let’s put it over. Let’s keep at it until the job’s done.
WE CAN DO IT, as Brother Burton says, IN ONE
Some months ago it was my privilege to have a
extending an invitation to a faithful Christian man to
the Board of the Gospel Press, the organization through
Christians buy space in national magazines for the
of Christ and his church. When we asked this

The second of the four passages is “And let us not be weary
in well doing: for in due season we shall reap if we faint not. So
then, as we have opportunity, let us work that which Is good

household of faith" (Gal 6:9-10).

“Ready Unto Every Good Work”
By BATSELL BARRETT BANHiR
Paul wrote to Titus, "Put them In mind to be in
to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready
good work (Titus 3:1). Notice the last part of this
“Be ready unto every good work.” The apostle Paul
Titus, but for all Christians of all time.
Four Passages
There are four very significant passages of Scripture re
lating to the theme under consideration. First, notice Revelation
14:13: “And I heard a voice from heaven saying, Write, Blessed
are the dead who die in the 14.)rd from henceforth: yea. saith the
Spirit, that thcy may rest from their labors; for their works
follow after them.”
New York Church
- Funds Growing;
$100,000 Already
-The Manhatten project is
succeeding.” Burton Coffman
said last week when he was in
the Chronicle office. "We have
already received the first
1100.000 on the job, and we are
hopeful that far greater results
will be obtained on June 30
when the A M Burton Plan is
to be followed by a large num-
ber of churches.”
One hundred congregations
from 20 states. Caracas. Vene-
zuela. and Honolulu. T.I., have
already signed up to participate
in the Burton Plan, but is hoped
that a far greater number are
planning to help who have not
signed a pledge to do so
An encouraging development
was the response given In a
few Tennessee churches which
set aside a Sunday and gave
half the collection to Manhat-
ten.
These tests were on the na-
ture of “trial runs” and re-
vealed that there is a great
deal of rank and fjle interest
in doing the Manhatten job
For example. McMinnville. Ten
nesse£, which has normal Sun
day collection of $700 received
over twice that amount.
