the store, and the pair cashed it at a
local bank,” the chief explains.
“Officer Olga Gonzales took the
original complaint after the check
cleared the bank and asked permis-
sion to pursue the case herself,
rather than turn it over to investi-
gators. She did that, completed the
investigation and made the arrests
on warrants, last Friday.”
The two men were jailed in
Hidalgo County Detention Center on
bonds of $2500 each for forgery.

“They hit the ground running
and a foot chase ensued,” the chief
says. Officer Rick Valdez apprended
the suspects, assisted by Officer
Jesus Huerta, who had been sum-
moned as back-up.
The three, ages 12, 10 and eight,
were released to their parents, but
face charges of burglary in juvenile
court, the chief adds.
Two 19 year olds, one from
Mercedes and one with.a Lockhart
address, were arrested for the
forgery of a $300 check they had
found at HEB Foodstore, the chief
