DALLAS, Oct. 26 (UP)—Con-
gressman Marvin Jones of Ama-
rillo, Chairman of the House Agri-
cultural Committee, said today
that a national farm program wiU
be necessary as long as tariffs and
other trade barriers are maintain-
ed.
"Unless the Supreme Court
acts on the processing taxes and
other features of the AAA, the
House Agricultural Committee will
not consider legislation along
these lines,” Jones said. “We are
not willing to believe that the
Supreme Court will do away with
the processing tax.”

There 1* a significance in this
lesson beyond the outward facts
of history in the rise and fall of
king* and kingdoms. We are told
that in that night was Belshassar,
the Chaldean king, slain, and that
Darius the Mede became the ruler
of the kingdom.
The Persian triumph is a mat-
ter of history. But the lesson*
of the story lie deeper, and they
strike at the heart of every man’s
life.
Every man is called to be the
king over his own soul. In the
exercise of that sovereignty he
may make his life great and se-
cure, or he may make it foul and
degraded.
“Dare to be a Daniel” is still
a finger mark for the way of
right and strength and honor.

“Probation After Death” is the
subject of the Lesson-Sermon
which will be read in all Churches
of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday,
October 27.
The Golden Text is: “Blessed is

for when he is tried, he shall re-
../i> of life, which the
Lord hath promised to them that
love him” (James 1:12).
Among the citations which com-
prise the Lesson-Sermon is the
following from the Riole: “When

they had brought Daniel into the
king’s presence to read the writ-
ing.
Daniel, strong young hero, as
diciplined in mind, soul and
body as a well trained athlete,
dared to speak to the king with-
out subterfuge. He was prepared
to read the writing, but before
reading it he spoke out against
Belshazzer the judgments of truth
and righteousness.
He brings against the ruler the
indictment that he has lifted up
himself against the Lord of Heav-
en, that he has missed and dese-
crated divine things, and that he
hag perverted all true worship to
things of silver and gold, of brass
and iron.
“The God In whose hand thy
breath is, and whose are all thy
ways, last thy not glorified,”
said Daniel.
With what sobering intensity
these words must have come to
the fear-striken king! Then in
this tense moment, Daniel begins
to reveal the writing. "God hath
numbered thy kingdom, and
brought it to an end. Thou art
weighed in the balances, and art

new meaning, and there is a
new need for them at an hour
when such sins of debauchery as
Belshazzar’s feast can be dupli-
cated on a small scale in so many
communities.
The debauchery of individuals,
of families and nations, through
drink is always associated with
other dire evils.
Belshazzar was ruler of a great
and proud empire, but he had not
established his empire in right-
eousness and truth. The fate of
his father might well have
warned him, for Nebuchadnezzar
had ended his career of conquest
and greatness a broken and piti-
ful figure.
Belshazzar had refused to be
warned, and in the hour of was-
sail judgment had come upon
him. Writing had come upon the
wall which had struck terror to
his heart, but which none of his
soothsayers had been able to re-
veal.
Then in this hour of fear and
need, the queen had remembered
Daniel, the Hebrew captive, and
