with any other paper in the church today. It is not
a successor to any other paper. It is not to be like
any other paper in the church. It is a weekly news-
paper ... with the purpose of publishing all the news
of all the churches of Christ that is worthy of being
published.
“The reason for publishing this paper Is to stir
up missionary zeal and activity among members
of the church everywhere, and to give to all a broad
vision of the opportunities and responsibilities of
the church today.
“It is believed that such a paper will do an incalcul-
able amount of good by giving direction and unity
to the efforts of Christians. It will generate a wider
acquaintance and cooperation among brethren ....
“We promise today to do all in our power to spread
the Gospel of Christ into all nations. Here we take
our stand."
More than 22 years have passed since Olan Hicks
launched the Christian Chronicle with these words.
But time has not eroded his purposes, and the
Christian Chronicle is every bit the newspaper he
had in mind.
Mission news is still a basic part of the Christian
Chronicle, and through feature story and editorial,
the editors still strive to “give to all a broad vision
of the opportunities and responsibilities of the church
today."
It still publishes all of the news worthy of being
published. This is achieved‘through the coordinated
efforts of an experienced office staff and through the
Chronicle News Service. This service is a world-wide
network or more than 100 men who regularly report
news to the Christian Chronicle from around the
world.
With such saturation coverage, the Christian
Chronicle carries more news, written in stimulating
style with an “in-depth" approach, than any other

the Eastside Church of Christ in
Midwest City, Okla.
At the age of 15, Gary worked
in his first "Campaign For

in Canada. He has since then .
worked in other campaigns, the
last of which was in Honolulu,
Hawaii.
In this campaign over 50 peo-
ple were baptized, six of which
Gary was directly responsible
for teaching. The church in Ok-
lahoma City will support him
..next summer while he works in
a "Campaign for Christ** in
Pennsylvania and other north-
eastern states.
The retreat counselors report-
ed that Gary’s ability coupled
with his congenial personality
was an inspiration and source of
much pleasure to the other teen-

are pushed back, the frontiers
of God’s Kingdom are extended.
A third reason for Christ’s
miracles is to affirm that salva-
tion is for the whole man. The
, Bible thinks of the body to be
important too. It is God’s crea-
tion, and it is to be raised anew.
Christ desires the whole person-
ality — a healthy body and a
disciplined mind and soul.
Someone has said, "unless all
the man is saved, salvation is
incomplete.’’ Far more than
most of us realize, the health of
the body and mind is linked to
the health of the soul.
Christ's Miracles —
An Answer To
Theological Questions
"Is Jesus the Christ?" John
asked this question while in pri-
son. (Matt. 11:35). This question
still rings across the world from
multitudes who are imprisoned
behind the walls of doubt and
cannot but notice the tender
words to the troubled, the be-
reaved, the harlot, and even the
tender tone of "forgive them"
for the mocking mob at the foot
of the cross. His touch for the
leprous and for the blind were
compassionate. Even the au-
thoritative commands to the
raging tempest and the undis-
ciplined demons were authored
with kindness. (Matt. 15:32;
Luke 7:13; and Luke 15:20). Our
world of science and wealth
could profit greatly by imitating
the simple compassion of Jesus.
A second reason underlying
the miracle ministry of Jesus is
the assertion of Divine Victory.
His ministry demonstrated his
power and authority. Pain, suf-
fering and diseases are part of
the evils of this world. Christ’s
miracles not only demonstrate
Divine Victory, but they demon-
strate that pain and suffering do
not essentially belong to God’s
skepticism. "Who is Christ? *
"Was he born of a virgin?" The
only answer that will adequate-
ly convince and satisfy this mul-
titude is the answer that Jesus
gave John.
Jesus* reply wasn’t a defini-
tion; it was a description of
things happening. The world
hungers to know the relevance
of these happenings to modern
perplexities, and to know the
practical side rather than the
preaching side. Therefore the
world is demanding to be shown

We may tell the manger story
and broadcast the dark hours of
the cross, but if the world is
ever to accept the meaning of
Christ and his ministry, we
must have a series of demon-
strations across the land. Dem-
compassions.
