The Journal again qalls attention
to the near approach of the muni-
cipal election, aud the importance
of putting right men into office.
So far as law and order is concern-
ed, we have an- ideal town, and
such security fr'om those petty an-
noyances, and often gravef crimes,
that aft het other places, is an in-
heritance much to be coveted, and
we ought to be very cirefuT in
changing •‘men or methods” to sec
that we do not injure ourselves.
There is a generally shared idea
that a town the size and importance
ot ours ought to have more public
interprize than it does have
OugTit to at least have some kind
of fire protection and arrangements
for keeping up the sidewalks. No
kind of ‘personal” feeling either
for or against any man or measure
should be indulged for a moment.
Tab good of the town should be
the only thing thought of or work-
ed for.

On last Tuesday W. E. Crim was
appointed constable of precinct No.
jl, (this precinct) to'fill the unex-
pired term of Bob Feemster deceas-
ed. Walter Mdthershead also had
a pet'itron before the commissioners
court but withdrew leaving an open
.field for his opponent.
There has been some talk of
abolishing the marshall’s office and
turning this work over to the con-
stable. The idea has its opponents
as well as its advocates, and it is
yet an open question as tc whether
or not this will be done. ' Should
it be done, Mr Crim will find him-
self in a responsible position and
will need, and should have a hearty
support from those who wish the
town well. - ” /
