They were identified by Welch as

—Texas has a new oil field today
12 miles east of the great Conroe
pool where the Gulf Production
Company’s Kirby Lumber Com-
pany No. 1 came in late yester-
day at 1,000 barrels.
Operators let the well blow to-
day, cleaning itself out.
The field is believed by some
oil men to be an extension of the
Conroe trend.

Of Heart Trouble

George K. Ledbetter, 64, who
served as Dallas county commis-
sioner for sixteen years, died here
today from an attack of indiges-
tion followed by a heart attack.

RETAIL GROCERY CODE
WASHINGTON, Dec. 30 (UP)
—The nation’s retail grocery bus-
iness, employing more than a mil-
lion workers, was placed today
under an NRA code of fair com-
petition.
The code as approved by Presi-
dent Roosevelt will become effec-
tive Jan. 6. It was the 182nd
code put through by the NRA and
the first of the codes formerly
handled by the AAA to be acted
upon by the NRA.

Robbery at Houston

Charles Owens and Dorothy Mc-
Kay, held at Ardmore, Okla., will
be brought here to face indict-
ments returned by the Harris
county grand jury today charging
robbery by firearms.
One indictment was for alleged
robbing November 26 of a taxi-
cab driver whose machine was re-
covered when the pair was ar-
rested at Ardmore. The other

Lee Simmons Enters
Race for Governor
DALLAS, Dec. 30 (UP)—The
name of Lee Simmons of Sherman
as candidate for governor was re-
ceived here today by Maury
Hughes, state democratic chair-
man.
Hughes said Simmons’ name
was sent in by a group of Throck-
morton county citizens with the
request it be placed on the demo-
cratic ticket for the first primary
July 28. This procedure place*
