a moving picture show will be put
on in the Presbyterian Church, U.
S A., at 7:30.
The pictures will jive an exhibit
of the life, habits and customs of
the American Indians; also what
the missionaries are accomplishing
among them. The pictures will be
accompanied with illustrated talks
and will be very Interesting and
Instructive.
These exhibits are being given
by the Board of National Missions
throughout the Synod of Texas.
There will be no admission fee
and the public is cordially Invited
to see these pictures.

graphed his regrets yesterday
saying that an engagement of
long standing would prevent his
being present, but he expressed
his approval of the club’s efforts
to promote Its student loan fund.
Senator Ji.e Hill wired that un-
less important business prevents
his leaving Austin he would gladly
accept the invitation to attend.

ing forward at a rapid rate to
make the occasion such that It
will be long remembered as among
the outstanding events of the mid-

community met at the Methodist
Church and under the direction of
Miss Marie Wilmeth, organized a
woman’s club.
During the business session the

Mrs Dea Gosset, first vice presi-
dent; Mrs. Travis Stone, second
vice president; Mrs. A. E. Snel-
grove, third vice president; Mrs.
Melvin Bridges, secretary; Mrs. J.
L. Patterson, reporter.
Demonstrators for the year are
as follows:
Canning, Mrs. Ed Garrison;
yard, Mrs. Fred Gossett; bedroom,
Mrs. Willie Bridges; clothing, Mrs.
Ansel Bridges.
Meetings are to be held
monthly.
The next meeting will be in the
home of Mrs. Ed Langston with the
following program: “Health and
Ventilation.”

She cited how legislators debat*
over salaries in appropriation bills,
down to those paid janitors and
porters.
Raised standards for teaching
certificates, she said, are opposen
by a considerable number of
teachers who would be affected.
Former Lieut. Gov. Edgar E.
Witt of Waco discussed the 1936
centennial. Appropriation for it
is part of the federation’s approv-
ed program. Both Witt and Mrs.
Hughes stressed the statewide ad-
vantage of advertising Texas.
The committee selected Austin
for the November, 1935, conven-
tion of the federation. Appoint-

“If you accomplish just one
thing that is on the program, it
will be a good year’s work,” Mrs.
Hughes said.
She gave a favorable report on
the drivers’ license law. A law
against stock running at large
was declared as important as the
drivers’ license law in Xreventing ... _______________
accidents. "It probably would j t>n a» official hostess at h?ad-

censing drivers,” Mrs. Hughes
told club women.
“Old age pensions of $200
month are Utopian,
expect to get that,”
legislator said, "but we must
agree that old people should be
taken care of, and that it can be
done just as inexpensively to so-
ciety by caring for them in their
homes as in poor houses.”
No bill has been offered, she
reported, o» establishment of a
hospital for tubercular negroes.

negro servants are in many homes.
She explained that the hospital
can be provided in appropriations
of the legislature without a separ-
ate bill.
Little hope was expressed for
carrying out the federation’s edu-
cation program. Mrs. Hughes
said there is much legislative op-
position to appointment of the
state school superintendent and
also opposition to appointment of
county school superintendents.
