ASHINGTON. -The Duncans and Edwiii'dses have been found. If
the names don't register with you, they'll? the two familu - of
Texas and California militants whose troubles were written up in this
-pace recently. In ease you stilt don't recall, it was the birth o( a baby
in the Duncan family which resulted in the ease ol
Edwards vs. the Stale of California reaching th
mighty United States Supremo Court to t«-t th*
constitutionality of lows by which 28 states now
restrict the free How of human migration Within
the country. After the ease got going the Duncans
and Kdwardses were lost sight of, but the Farm
Security Administration has now located them.
The (act that their names may go down in legal
history hasn't bothered them much. They've been
too busy trying to keep body and soul together.
Fred Edwards is now working for the California
State Department of Agriculture as a fruit and
vegetable inspector in the state canning factory at
San Jose, lie rents there, but he's buying a little
place near Marysville, where the law first tangled
Edsnn with him for bringing the Duncans into the state
just before Mrs. Duncan had her baby. Frank
Duncan has been working the fruit ranches most of the time, hut in
September he got a job in a chemical plant in Pittsburg. Calif., and
as long as defense contracts hold out, he's sure of steady work.

TVKWEST chapter on the Irish situation is an attempt to organize an
American Iri-h Defense Association as an active anti-Nazi force
in the country. Asking the Americans of Irish descent to "support the
British" is too much, so the slogan adopted for the organization is
"Vou Can Count on the Irish—Mr. President." Hacking the U. S.
foreign policy and working for an allied victory -not a British vic-
tory—are the objectives. Rossa P. Downing of Washington, who used
to be a confidante of De Valera, is national chairman of the move-
ment. Justice Frank Murphy's recent speech. "Catholicism and the
Crisis." delivered before a Knights of Columbus meeting, has been
printed in pamphlet form and is being circulated as the doctrine.
Professional Irish charge the new movement is backed by British
gold.

Reports Heard
animals that have been driven out of the bushes make the most inter-
esting and significant reading. There is. for instance, the matter ol
truck rentals on government construction protects. At the Milan
ordnance works in Tennessee, there was one truck in particular which
came to the attention of the committee's chief consul. Hugh Fulton.
This truck was listed as having cost $2100 new. The enntraetnr at
the Milan plant paid out $1520 in rental for the ti e nf the truck, then
released it to its owner. Further investigation, hnwewr. th t lo-ed
that this truck wasn't new on the Milan job. It had been ti-ed pre-
viously in construction at Fort Leonard U'oi d. Mo. Rental on the
truck there had been paid by the contractor to the tune of $2150
Adding up the rentals brought the amazing figure nf s:)7ail for the
use of the truck, and the government still didn't own it.
Correct procedure in tints instance would have been for the govern-
ment to recapture the truck after the payment nf S2KH) rentals at
Fort Leonard Wood, assuming that the cost tigvn'c of $2100 was cor-
rect. Then the truck could have been used rent free at a: many other
construction jobs. Irregularities of this sort vvcte expired at i number
nf the early construction jobs and called to the Army's attention,
What burns up the investigators is that these Ic.-soiis are never
learned.
