This is a "Hupmobile town”, and it
needs, and will soon have, a Hupmo-
bile dealer.
It is the kind of community that most
appreciates this fine car.
The Hupmobile, while ranking with
cars that cost much more, sells at the
remarkably low price of $1,250 f. o. b.
factory.
This brings it within the reach of per-
sons of ordinary means, and makes it
a wonderful proposition for the dealer.
The man we are looking for to repre-
sent the Hupmobile here, is a hustler
and a good business man.
To such a man, we can practically
assure many prospects, sales and ex-
ceptional profits.

Judge Lewis Rogers of Houston,
general attorney for the Federal Loan
Bank, is in the city visiting his
parents. Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Rogers,
of East California street, and other
relatives here. The judge says the
recent big rains we have been hav-
ing in North Texas are only showers
when compared with “the deluges they
have been having lately at Houston
and other portion^ of South Texas.
As a general thing, the judge says,
crops of all kinds are looking fine in
both Central and South Texas, espe-
cially corn and small grain. He'also
states that the Federal Land bank
is doing an immense business and
“the borrowing demands are almost
up to the maximum limit most all of

Washington. May 1.—(By United

committee has decided to ask Henry
Ford to accept a counter-offer for the

it is now framing. Chairman Julius

The committee, apparently believ-

least eliminated all offers from its
consideration but there still exists
some strong opposition in the com-

J. A. Gilse, former cashier of the
First State Bank of Park Springs,
missing since February 21at, arrived
in Decatur early Monday morning
on the south-bound Fort Worth &
Denver train and went to the county
jail and told the sheriff that he was
wanted by the authorities. The
dieriff recognized Mr. Giles and es-
corted him to a celL When the of-
ficer questioned the prisoner, he re-
fused to talk. Monday afternoon
Giles was taken before Esquire T.
L. Taylor for an examining trial, but
this was waived and the bond was
placed at $3,000, which was readily
given by a number of Chico and
Bridgeport citizens. The bond is said
to be worth several times the amount
fixed by the court Immeliately
after he was released from jail, Mr.
Giles went to his home in Park
Springs.
On the morning of Wednesday,
February 22, when officials of the
Park Springs bank came to the bank,
they found that the time lock on the
vault had been set for seventy-two
hours. This discovery created excite-
ment among the bank officials and
an effort was made to find the
cashier. It was reported on the
fltreets of the little town that Mr.
Giles had stated the evening before
that he was going to the fat stock
show at Fort Worth, and an effort
was made to loc ate him in that city.
No trace of Giles could be found in
Fort Worth, and his friends in Park
Springs became alarmed. At the ex-
piration of the seventy-two hours,
the time lock on the balk vault
“clicked” and the door was opened.
Then it was found that Mr. Giles had
gone to parts unknown, and that he
had taken considerable bank funds
with him. Something like $2,600 was
missing, and a note was found in
which Mr. Giles stated he had gone.
The note was addressed to Mrs. Giles.
The sheriff’s department in
Decatur took up the search for Giles,
but no trace of him could be found.
It was the general supposition that
he had gone into Mexico.
Monday morning Mr. Giles got off
the south-bound Denver here and
was brought to town in a jitney serv-
ice car. Leaving the <ar on the
square. Mr. Giles walked to the jail
and surrendered.
Attorney H. E. Lobdell has been
employed to defend Mr. Giles on the
charge of embezzlement. Mr. Giles
is a member of one of the most re-
spected families in the Park Springs
country, and the many friends of the
man and his family hope that he will
l»e able to clear up the charges and
dispel the suspicions that have been
created as a result of his conduct.

Kansas City, May 1—(By United
Press.)—Five negroes were reported
killed. 3 or 4 missing, several other
persons were injured when an ex-
plosion completely wrecked a two-
story rooming house on Independence
avenue today.
Fire broke out, burning eome of
the victims as the wall* of the build-
ing collapsed. Fronts of adjacent
buildings were blown out and win-
dows for a block away were broken.
Police were attempting to deter-
mine whether a blackhand bomb or
congested gas from a leaky pipe
caused the blast. w
John Hughes, one of the men who
escaped, said threats had been made
to bomb the house because owner*
refused to sell it.
When the walls were shattered,
victims were plunged into the base-
ment, from where they could be
heard screaming as the flames en-
veloped the wreckage.
The 12 or 30 occupants of the
place were all asleep when the blast
let go shortly before dawn. Most of
those who escaped death were blown
through windows.
