What worries me is . . . what
hnpp. ns v 1 , n tln v P't a day off
after w« rking tin ir heaih off all
v el.' They km to tuwa . . . and
what then?
W hat happens? The answer is
... r.. ' '' ' Because most
town tv ar arm.v camps just don't
have nearly enout h entertainment
f.;. ii.* t .taki iarc fthesnldiys
.•n leave. So the boys just stand
around, Laning nifainst latiippost.1
or sittiajf on doorsteps. And some-
tin' the lo.*al townsfolk find
themselves wondering what's
chanced the town . . . instead of
piU'hinj. in •" help the boys have a
V ni time in decent surroundings.
• •
In many towns, however, the
situation is better. Many towns
h;ne niec. community places where
a -i.Idii r can «o sit down and "chew
the fat" and enjoy some caV" and
milk, or maybe a Rood glass of
beer. 1 he hoys like that. And they're
not likely t«> Ket in trouble . ..
because common sense tells you
nothing can he wrong about 4
couple of glasses of beer.
There's another reason, too. Tha
heer industry is cooperating with
the army and with the law-enforec-
ment officers to help keep tha
places here beer is sold, clean and
decent. The brewers d.rn't want
their beer sold to soldiers in placet*
where bad conditions exist,.. and
they're right. .
• <|
Seem* to me that we Americana
' tight to get. together and dct
everything we can to make things
plea ant for the boys who are in
t raining. Th y're iloint? tktir duty
. . . maybe ,i • haw- some duties,
too, in this direction.
There are lots of ways of help-
inc. We ought to support them all.
All of u have our part to play ia
winning this war...and making
life a little easier for the boys ia
camp is something we all can 4%
something about.
