NXW YORK — Their feces be-
traylng worried looks, two
housewives bustled into Queens
county court to ask that their
butcher be excused from jury
duty. "He’s a busy and im-
portant man in the neighbor-
’ hood,’’ they explained. The
judge cited that the jury sum-
mom was not returnable until
next week. That was worse,
week was Thanksgiving week.
The ju0ge smiled, said the man
would have to appear, then ad-
ded: •Well have him beck in

handicap of distance should have
been overcome is a point which
somebody undoubtedly will have to
answer on the carpet. Certainly
this exhibition of Nazi strength is
a warning that Hitler still is very
dangerous. <
You’d think that the Fuehrer had
head islands in the Aegean. But
it’s precisely because he is in such
great difficulties up north that he’s
clinging so fiercely to the islands.
Actually these islands are indirect
protection for the gravely en-
dangered German right flank up in
the Dnieper region. This is so for
two vital reasons: (1) The islands
effectively block invasion of the
Balkans via the Aegean, and HlUer
date not allow the Balkans to col-
lapse until he has pulled bis battle-
line dear back into Poland, past
the entrance to the Balkan pen-
insula; (3) the blocking of the
Aegean and the Dardanelles pre-
vents the Allies from giving Russia
the vast aid which would be pos-
sible if the Black Bea were open
and about two feet
ger volumes weigh
ce and it is easily
posllge to hold 41ght or ten in
your hand at once.
A far cry from the ancient hand- ,
written manuscripts, the micro-
film library is filled with pictures of
books that may be projected onto a
screen and the original ccjjy of old,
no longer attainable books is pro-
duced. Each page is filmed separ-
ately and when a student finished
one, the view is changed and he
goes on with his reading.
Widen* Scope
The purpose of this library is to
give students and faculty members
access to books or manuscripts that
the regular library can not afford or
for some other reason is not able
to obtain.
Microfilms have recently been
secured of the works of world re-
nowned music masters, such as
Handel, Bach, and Beethoven,
Whose original works are now in
Germany, where reprints can not
be made. Even if these books were
in circulation, they would cost ap-
proximately 81.000 a set. while the
average 300-page book when pro-
duced on microfilm casts 81.50
Microfilm copies have also been
secured of books printed as early
as the 17th century which are no
longer in circulation. Personal let-
ters, diaries, and famous historical
documents are put at the disposal
of students through microfilm
strips.
Work Done at College
Nearly 50 per cent of the films
now in the library were made and
developed wiUi especially designed
Groflex Recordax cameras owned
by the college and operated by stu- I
dents, under the direction of Miss
Elaine Cunningham, manager of
the library’s Industrial processes
Rare books are borrowed from other
libraries and lasting records made
of them in picture.
War demands have curtailed the
making of new films during the
pa<t year and at the present time
plans are being made for colleges
and universities throughout the na- i
tlon who have microfilm librai les
to list their holdings for national
use. This will enable students of
North Texas to write any other col-
lege in the nation and get materials
that this institution has not been
able Io procure
The microfilm library is located
in the library building and is open
to all students at the same hours
the regular library is open.
