AUSTRIA
R. Edward Carter Award for Program Development and both the
Professional Contribution Award and the Lifetime Achievement
Award from the Brain Injury Association of Texas. Cindy serves on
the Advisory Board of Easter Seals, makes visits to Capitol Hill to
discuss access to healthcare and is on the Edu-
cation Committee for We Move. She juggles the
demands of family, career, exercise and good
friends who have become her Houston family
and community.
Carol McKinney Osborn is the wife of Linn
Osborn and the mother of Jason Osborn, Samuel
| Temple and Oliver Osborn. She was born in
Borger, TX, raised in Bartlesville, OK and moved
to Houston in 1974. She is a homemaker who
volunteers with the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts,
PTA and drives people to and from the hospital and doctor’s ap-
pointments. Carol enjoys studying Torah and also Hebrew grammar.
She believes that being an adult Jew includes lifelong learning and
a life of service.
Sandy Brown Rubin is the wife of Alan Rubin and the mother of
Noah Blake Rubin. She was bom in San Antonio and has lived in
Houston for 16 years. Sandy is a mom and homemaker. She volun-
teers as a caseworker with the Clayton Dabney Foundation for Kids
with Cancer. Sandy’s interests include working out, movies, cook-
ing, baking and decorating. Since beginning the Adult B’nai Mitzvah
program, Shabbat has become a day of true rest which Sandy values
deeply.
Jeremiah (Jereme) Scott has lived in Houston for 14 years.
Previously, he lived in Los Angeles for 16 years. He graduated from
Portland State University with a BA in Business/Marketing. After
working in that field for ten years, he spent 11 years teaching Spe-
cial Education. Jereme was appointed to the Community Planning
Group by the mayor and works with the City Health Department on
AIDS Education and Prevention. He is currently the co-chair of the
Quality Assurance Committee of the CPG and is also a fundraising
agent for the Israeli AIDS Task Force. Jereme enjoys horseback
riding and traveling and is an avid movie buff. He describes Judaism
as a never-ending journey of the love of Torah.

Harriet Elaine (Kauftheil) Babchick is the wife of Jack
Babchick; the mother of Barbara Babchick, Susan Babchick White
and Deborah Weinstein; and the grandmother of Michael Babchick.
She has lived in Houston for 44 years, since she and Jack were
married. Harriet is an artist and teacher whose
art work has been presented in several exhibi-
tions locally and around the United States. She
volunteers with Hadassah and the Jewish Fed-
eration Business and Professional Women’s
Group and is a past president of Avital
Hadassah, Houston (1999-2001). Harriet’s hob-
bies include reading, yoga, travel and learning
new skills. She loves to host get-togethers and
describes herself as a “party maven.”
Annette Guajardo Goldberg is the wife of
Councilman Mark Goldberg and the mother of Joshua and Victoria
Goldberg. She was bom in Corpus Christi, but moved to Houston as
fast as she could at age three. Annette works for the City of Hous-
ton as a manager for the Building Services Department. She does
volunteer work on political campaigns as she feels it is the single
most important factor in learning how politics plays a role in all of
our lives. Annette’s hobbies include decorating, politics and learn-
ing all about the newest gadgets for babies.
Bettie Heyman is the wife of Alfred Heyman; the mother of
Michael, Paul and Lawrence Heyman; and the grandmother of Eliza-
beth Heyman, Caleb James, Joshua Heyman, Daniel Heyman, Jef-
frey Heyman, Olivia Heyman and Haley Heyman. Bettie was bom in
Galveston and has lived in Houston for 43 years. She is a housewife
and retired school teacher. Bettie serves on the Hospital Visitation
Committee for Beth Yeshurun and is a life member of Hadassah in
the Ben Gurion Chapter. She plays Mah Jongg weekly, takes daily
walks with her husband and enjoys swimming in the summer.
Dr. Cindy Beth Ivanhoe is the wife of Dr. Bruce Ennis and the
mother of Sarah and Samuel Ivanhoe Ennis. Cindy was bom in New
York and has lived in Houston for 12 years. She is an associate
professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Baylor and a
Physician-Director of the Brain Injury and Stroke Program at the
Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR). She received the
