ton, a cooperative effort of Houston’s Jewish Federation and local
congregations to welcome Jewish families from New Orleans with a
personal, friendly phone call. Over 500 names were provided by the
New Orleans Federation and divided among four congregations.
Our callers not only welcomed the families, but also asked for
their latest contact information, current situation and thoughts about
their future plans. The calls were met with much appreciation for the
support of the Houston community. All information was passed on
to the New Orleans Federation to help in their efforts to keep the
Jewish community connected. A big thanks to the callers, who
readily and enthusiastically volunteered to carry out this project:
Shirley Arsham, Mike Goldstein, Celine Hecht, Lillie Hurwitz, Sonia
Kronberg, Ray Levin, Ileene Robinson, Miriam Rosenbloom, Marsha
Schooler and Judy Yambra.
Please join Rabbi Danny Horwitz, our new
Chapel Rabbi, when he leads Friday night
services in the Freedman-Levit Sanctuary
on Jan. 13,6 p.m. This is the weekend that
our clergy will be in Galveston participating
in our Biennial Congregational Family
Retreat. If you have not yet had the chance
to meet or hear Rabbi Horwitz, this will be a
wonderful opportunity to do so.
