The Jewish Federation of Greater Houston’s Bureau of Jewish
Education is presently accepting enrollment in the Gift of Israel
program. Gift of Israel is a savings incentive program that pro-
vides a unique opportunity for families to save for their child’s
future teen trip to Israel. Enrollment is open to children in third
through seventh grade who are affiliated with a synagogue and at-
tend either a Jewish day school or religious school.
Families are required to deposit a minimum of $150 into the
child’s Gift of Israel savings account annually from time of enroll-
ment through ninth grade. The interest-bearing savings account
is maintained and administered by Wells Fargo Bank. Additional
community dollars from the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston
are set aside each year to augment that amount. These funds are
made available by the community’s Annual United Jewish Cam-
paign and are held in a special endowment fund maintained at the
Houston Jewish Community Foundation. Congregation Beth Ye-
shurun also contributes funds as part of the Gift of Israel program.
Family and friends can make contributions to the savings account
as well, which makes Gift of Israel the perfect way to celebrate
birthdays, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Hanukkah and other special occa-
sions.
Participants of the Gift of Israel program can select from a
variety of teen Israel experience trips, including kibbutz experi-
ences, cultural, academic studies, sports and adventure, and more.
Each trip generates its own special identity, excitement, fun, and
learning. Gift of Israel participants return from their Israel trips
describing their experiences as life-changing, spiritually enrich-
ing, and educationally enlightening. A journey to Israel is the gift
of a lifetime!
The time to enroll is NOW. The DEADLINE for NEW Enroll-
ment in Gift of Israel is March 15, 2009.
