Crockett's body was found sur-
rounded by some 16 dead Mex-
ican soldiers. That's the account
that I'm going with.
The Texians fought bravely,
but were out numbered on ev-
ery wall. Not long after dawn
the Alamo fell. The only survi-
vors were the non-combatants.
Women, children and a few ne-
gro slaves.
When gunsmoke and fires fi-
nally settled, The wives of dead
Mexican soldiers collected their
dead and wounded. The Texi-
cans and other volunteers were
collected and piled up with fire-
wood and burned next to an old
oak tree.
A year later, Juan Seguin
came to the Alamo, It is said
that he had the ashes collected of
the all of the brave combatants
of the Alamo, and put them in
a coffin and buried it very near
Mexican Army as the number
of casualties of Texians. After
the Mexicans stormed the walls,
the fighting went room to room
throughout the Alamo, most of
the fighting ended at the end of
a Mexican bayonet. Some ac-
counts of the battle have Dav-
ey Crockett and a few others
were taken alive. And was shot

Last week we are still at the
Alamo and Santa Anna is still
waiting for the remainder of his
army to arrive. On March 4th
and 5th Santa Anna's cannons
and mortars bombarded the Al-
amo on and off both days. Santa
Anna called his officers together
for a staff meeting on the night
of March 4th, he was growing
impatient and voiced his plan for
a final attack. Many of his offi-
cers advised him to wait for his
big artillery cannons to arrive,
these 12 pound cannons would
crumble what's left of the Ala-
mo's fortification. Santa Anna
was afraid that all of the Texians
in the Alamo might flee from the
Alamo and he would lose his
moment of glory in their defeat.
But he waited.
On the night of March 5th,
Travis received word that there
would be no reinforcements or
supplies coming to their aid. So
Travis gathered everyone in the
Alamo together and announced
that relief was not coming, and
an all out attack by the Mexican
Army was imminent. And that
with only some 200 men against
some 4000, made it look as
though the Mexican Army may
prevail.
It is said that Travis then took
his saber and drew and line in
the sand and ask anyone who
is willing to stand and die with
6th, the day the Alamo fell.
Come by Swisher County
Museum and can talk about
those brave souls that defended
the Alamo against overwhelm-
ing odds.

him and Texas to step across the
line and stand along side of him.
Everyone stepped across except
one man, Louis Moses Rose a
negro slave and stated that was
just freed and was not ready to
die. Even Jim Bowie, who was
bed ridden had Davey Crockett
drag his cot across the line with
Travis and the others.
At about 10:00 that evening by firing squad at Santa Anna's
the Mexican artillery halted and request. Another account says
everything began to be quiet.
Finally, the Texians were able
to get a little sleep. That's when
Moses Rose slipped out of the
Alamo and safely escaped.
At approximately 5:30 on the
morning of March 6th, Santa
Anna gave the order to attack.
His troops became excited and
were heard yelling "Viva Santa
Anna, Viva la repulica !"This
awoke the Texians in the Alamo
and everyone knew that this was
an all out attack. Going through
everyones mind was Victory or
Death.
In the movie "The Alamo"
with John Wayne as Davey
Crockett, I always get a lump in
my throat when two dying Ten-
nesseean's look at one anoth-
er and one says "Do this mean
what I think it do?" The other
replies in dying breath "ft do!"
But of course no one knows ex-
actly what happened. But I'm
sure that the Texians extracted
10 times the casualties on the
