Because of materialistic pressures
in the school room, in the office, in the
factory, on the street and nearly every-
■where, many are finding it difficult to
retain the faith of their childhood and
early youth. In fact, ours is a genera-
tion of unbelievers.
Many are arrogantly boastful of
’ -their unbelief; others are concerned and
long to fill the empty place in their
lives.
Just such a one. a man whose son
had been healed by the Master, said
pathetically. “I believe; help thou mine
unbelief’ (Mark 9 24).
This passage indicates there is such
a thing as conscientious unbelief. It
would seem that Thomas was for a time
in this category (John 20,25). and Na-
thanael too (John 1.46).
Sometimes those who are subjected
lo unusual hardship or bereavement be-
•gin to question the things they have
long held to be true Others, when con-
fronted with worldly - wise arguments
designed to make shipwreck of faith,
become disturbed because they can find
no immediate answer to quench the
beginnings of doubt
What should such a person do'.’-First
of all he should not feel impelled to pro-
claim or cultivate his doubt Preachers
find teachers likewise should preach i
their faith, not their doubts. The Chris-
tian outlook causes one to accept all he
can. to grow every day. to pray for
wisdom and knowledge, to study that
prayer might be fulfilled, AND. to real-
ize that faith still comes by hearing the
word of God (Rom 10:171.
Navigation
In a recent magazine article a new
concept in navigation is described It
seems that nuclear submarines now can
circumnavigate the globe without sur-
facing and without checking their po.si-
tions against the stars.
Missiles can now be fired from un-
[ der water to strike with deadly accuracy
' on targets over 1000 miles aw ay.
Such feats are possible, the article
’ stales, because of a little black box
which houses an entirely new technique
called "inertial navigation."
A significant statement was math I
to the effect that all the system needs i
is a knowledge of where the ship stalled I
f rom
The soul of man must travel farther
than any ship. The soul's "inertial
navigation’’ box is called the Bible.
Like the skipper of a submarine, one
needs to know where he started from so
that with supreme accuracy he may
land on target as he soars from earth
to heaven.
And where did man originate'.’
There are many answers that are given
to this important question But there
is only one answer that is true: "God
created man in his own image, in the
•image of God created he him; male and
•female created he them" (Gen. 1:27).

Conscientious Unbelief
The Bible anticipates every anxiety
and doubt. In it are all things pertain-
ing to life and godliness (2 Pet. 1:3).
But to be effective, God’s word must be
accepted in faith. One of the greatest
tragedies of Jesus' ministry took place
in his own country: "He did not many
mighty works there because of their un-
belief" (Matt 13:58).
In these perilous times the church
is in dire need of great faith May we
be able to say with Paul, "'rhe life
which I now live in the flesh 1 live by
the faith of the Son of God, who loved
me, and gave himself for me" <Gal.
2:20).

Object Lesson
Dr. Fred Schwarz' book, "You Can
Trust The Communists (To Be Com-
munists)," opens with the words, “The
thesis of this book is very simple. It
is that Communists are Communists 1
jntend to show that they are exactly
what they say they are; they believe
what they say they believe; then ob-
jective is the objective they have re-
peatedly proclaimed to all the world,
their organization is the organization
they have described in minute detail:
and their moral code is the one they
have announced without shame."
We have quoted the above lines be-
'eumpwf- cause of Ihelr significance in relation to
the Chnstian’s claim. Is the Christian
in our time exactly what he says he is
and does he believe what he says he
believes? If so is M too much to expect
that his dedication to the task of saving
the world lie at least equail to the Com-
munism’s dedication to the task utf de-
stroying the world?
