apple in bowl with cabbage, celery and
green pepper. Add salt, pepper, salad
oil and vinegar. Mix thoroughly, then

of meat around each strip of cheese,

ted State* destroyer Blakeley reach-
ed port here tonight after coming
*&Uy through an attack by a wolf
pack of Axis submarines which pre-
cipitated a naval battle.
Hie Blakeley, crippled by a tor-
pedo in a fljkt submarine attack
off Martinique Monday, was mak-
ing the 20-mlle run from Fort De
France, where she put in Monday,
to this Island under her own power
when the enemy attacked
Hie detailed outcome of this bat-
tle, other than the Blakeley's es-
cape, has not been disclosed
Nubs Destroyed
It was indicated, however, that
one of more German submarines
had been destroyed by United
States planes, but whether In this
encounter or in earlier operations
following tile first attack on the
Blakeley was not made clear
Naval authorities have been
aware that a submarine wolf pack
was operating in this area; hence
the multiple attack on the Blakeley
was no surprise.
Tills made it impossible to iden-
tify any submarine destroyed as
terday for assistance In relieving
the jam. saying tljat the shipping
situation hi the Gulf of Mexico had
caused diversion from water to rail
routes.
