Concert and Drama Series Oct 24.
She will talk on wartime conditions
today in England.
This will be Miss Strother's sec-
ond visit to the T. 8. C W. cam-
pus. She was unable to fill a speak-
ing engagement here last year be-
cause of illness.
In private life she is Mrs Max-
tone Graham, the mother o^ three
children, two of whom are living
with her in New York for the dura-
tion. The eldest son. James, is a
Home Guard and a farmer tn Eng-
land. Her husband, an Insurance
broker before he Joined the Scot^
Guard, was taken a prisoner In
Ifibya in 1942.
"Mrs Miniver." Miss Strother’s
book of British life under the strain
of war. was a summer choice in
1939 of the Book-of-the-Month
Club. Previously for about a year
her “Mrs. Miniver" sketches ap-
pealed in The London Times. Rap-
idly the American edition became
a best seller It was adapted to
the screen in the production star-
ring Greer Garson and Walter
Pidgeon.
The now-familiar pseudonym
“Jan Strother” originated from
the author's maiden name, Joyce
Anstruther.
Mrs. Struther prefers to write
poetry rather than prose. Several
of her best collections are “The , .. .
Glass Blower" and “Try Anything ' School will play the Slidell High
School team. Following the game,
a queen of the Hallowe'en Carnival
will be crowned.
