VT'E ha^e seen how the joy and
hosannas of the triumphal
entry of Jesus into Jerusalem
changed so quickly into the
scenes of darkness and tragedy,
is .lemis was arrested, brought
.icfore Pilate, and driven forth
j crucifixion. And then, just
.is quickly, darkness was turned
into light, sorrow into joy. and
neath and tragedy into triumph.
Jesus had warned the disciples
in words that after the event
.rem unmistakably plain that
ile was about to suffer and die;
i it the disciples were so filled
mth the idea of an earthly kinK-
fom, and they were so disputing
bout who should hav# the pre-
ferred places, almost to the very
noment of the crucifixion, that
they failed to take His words
seriously
Then came the blow, with the
i hattering of their hopes Peter
xpn sed the mood, and the
omplete disillusionment, when
e said. "I go afishinf," meaning
that he was going back to his
■us, that the dream for which
v had lelt all and followed
lesi.s w as over

I ing conviction, filled with power,
was that he too had seen the
Master "as one born out of due
won."
I^HE Resurrection became the
^ groundwork of Paul's faith
and work, as il was that of the
first disciples It is the profound
conviction that has been the mo-
tivating power of Christianity—
the faith that Jesus lives, and
that He is leading on.
Is it hard to believe'* Con-
sider the miracle of Christianity
itself What less than that con-
viction that Jesus had risen and
had revealed Himself to them
could have arrested the disciples
in their hour of complete de-
spair, and sent them forth in a
new found faith, prepared to
serve, to suffer, and if need be to
die. for the glory of spiritually
carrying on th« work and min-
istry of a King, who but yester-
day was the center of their am-
bition for earthly power and re-
ward''
Their faith, like their works,
was the evidence of the trans-
formation through which they
parsed as they knew that Jesus
lived, and they understood the
words concerning His death and
Resurrection that but a few
weeks before had seemed so in-
comprehensible
Would Ood that we. also
might have that expei lenee. and
know the Risen Christ as the',
knew Him. and find the powci
that these humble men found
through the Resurrection' That
