fireworks in the unincorporated parts

In an effort to open more parking around the
Cooke County Courthouse, commissioners on
Monday agreed to allow three elected officials
to give up their reserved spots in downtown
Gainesville.
The parking spots, which are on the west side of
the courthouse, were reserved for Cooke County
Judge Jason Brinkley, Cooke County Attorney
Ed Zielinski and Cooke County District Attorney
John Warren.
Brinkley said the four spaces will become
20-minute parking spots since there is already one
that’s vacant.

Rep. Drew Springer, R-Muenster, sent a let-
ter Monday to Gov. Greg Abbott requesting that
the special session call be
expanded to address funding
for small, rural school districts.
As a representative of 22
rural counties in north and
west Texas, Springer said he
is of the devastating effects
that the funding shortfall will
have on small school districts
and has stressed the need to
continue funding for these
schools. The letter was also signed by Reps. Ken
King, Dustin Burrows, Poncho Nevarez, and Ryan
Guillen.
“The reality of the situation is that with the loss
of funding several of our small, rural school dis-
tricts are being forced to close their doors or pro-
vide a lesser quality of education than the major-
ity of other schools around the state. A few of

As the Fourth of July nears, more
people begin to have fireworks on their
mind.
Fireworks sales started Saturday,
and officials are asking the public to
keep the law and safety in mind when
shooting off those rockets.
The National Council on Fireworks
Safety advises families to promote
and teach fireworks safety by using
fireworks responsibly.
“Have a designated shooter that
knows each firework; how it performs
and how to safely light the firework,”
