The Gainesville resident said while
she trained a Boxer named Jasmine

“When I first got him, he was a
rescue kennel dog and did not know
how to play with people or toys. Now
his favorite thing besides agility is
playing fetch,” Jessica Steed said.

For the second time, Cooke County
Commissioners agreed Monday to table the pur-
chase of a new rescue truck for Cooke County
Emergency Medical Services.
Cooke County EMS Director Kevin Grant said
the vehicle would replace a 2014 Dodge 4500 light
rescue truck that was totaled in a crash earlier
this year.
He said the driver of the truck was at U.S.
Highway 82 and the Frontage Road when it struck
another truck. Grant said the drivers of the two
vehicles did not see one another and there were
no reported injuries.
He said a rescue truck carries auto extrication
tools, along with all the equipment a paramedic
needs to provide advance life support.
Grant said the cost of a 2017 Dodge 5500 light
rescue truck is $183, 500. A 4500 model would be
$750 cheaper.
“We found with the weight we carried we
needed something a bit bigger. The 5500 has
larger brakes, and can carry more weight,” Grant
said via an email interview. “The 4500 can carry
10,000 pounds and the 5500,19,000 pounds.”
He said the county has received $81,799 from
the Texas Association of Counties, the county’s

together for about a year.
“Right when we first bonded, I
knew that he was going to be great,”
Steed said. “We have been inseparable
since.”
