Rabbits Said To
Be Destroying Cotton.
Several farmers from the western
part of the county have reported to
the Cluunber of Commerce here that
rabbits are destroying much cotton
in that section Efforts to poison
the animals have been unavailing, as
the rabbits will not touch the poison1

Press)—E. Wl Wanner, formerly one
of the biggest figures in the Chicago
grain trade, whose firm failed for
millions a few years ago, plunged to
death today from the fifth story of
the Westminster butiilding in ths cen-
tral business distdict.

captain of the University Girls* Rifle
club and she readily accepted the op-
portunity to shoot against the army
officer.

university co-ed on two shots, one
point each. Mies Nimon on the final
shot had a total of 43, but the major
made a complete miss on the shot and
Miss Nimon won, 43 to 38. .

Two Arrested After

Two men were arrested by Deputy

Local Fishermen
Return From Trip
H. F. Smith, Jack Wise and Wal-
ter King returned Friday afternoon
from a fishing trip to Kemp Lake
near Wichita Falls, where they re-
ported fair luck and a pleasant out-
ing. It is rumored by one member
of the' party that Walter King
bought a hotel while away—at least
he paid a large installment on it

Melons Shipped
The Cooke County Fruit and Truck
Growers Association loaded its first
car of cantaloupes for shipment to
the- nqjthern markets Thursday. A
small quantity of melons have pre-
vious been shipped by express, but
this is the first car load shipped by
freight this season.

Crop Conditions
Are Poor Elsewhere
Crop conditions south of Dallas in
the vicinity of Lorena, Texas, are
, very poor, according to Frank R-
Stanford, who has just returned
from a visit with his father, W. B.
Stanford. He states that in that vi-
cinity for ti:e first time in fifty
1 years, the farmers will fail to make
a crop of any kind. The crop con-
ditions grow worse from Dallas south-
ward until the crops are completely
gone around Lorena, Mr. Stanford
says.

One Drunk .Fined

Friday morning, a man pleading
guilty to drunkenness. The assess-
ment was $9.70. This was the first
case tried beforf Judge Snider since
last Tuesday morning, when iwo
