Industrial Club Meeting.
The Industrial club met in the
city council chambers last night
with a good crowd on hand; des-
pite the holiday trade rush and
R. R. Anderson was elected a
member.
The > excursion committee re-
ported successful efforts and were
discharged.
Hall eommittee reported that
they had received permission
from city council to use their hall
free of cost. The committee’s
repott was accepted, the body
discharged and the council thank-
ed.
The club authorized purchase
of literature on the cotton mill
products for use of club.
Mr. Vaughan of the Galveston
News presented the attractions
offered through the January
special edition of his paper, in
which 250,000 copies were to be
printed and distributed and five
inch space was bought. Messrs.
Levy, Flewellen and Young were
appointed to arrange for pay-
ment of bill; Messrs. Levy, An-
drews and Garvin were appointed
to prepare the matter.

and was concluded about 3 p. m.
The case after an exhaustive
charge went to the jury and at 4
p. m. Saturday thejpry, failing to
agree; by agreement, was dis-
charged. The jury stood eight
&acquital and four for convic-
tion.
The Jno. T. Cox murder case
was pass over until yesterday
morning, as were all other felony
cases not otherwise disposed of.
Our public school will close for
the holidays next Friday, Decem-
ber 22th, and will open again
about Tuesday, January 2, 1900.
The infant child of Mr. and
Mrs. Jake Magee, after an earth-
ly life of only two months, passed
to the other world.
k, Miss Alice Cone has been ill

Dolph Hamilton, will soon put
gra saw mill on the east side of
Cake creek, near Longstreet.
The Jno. Cox case for the mur-
der of Jarrell, near Pankey about
eighteen months ago, was taken

jurors were obtained during the
evening aud the venue exhuasted.
The sheriff was then directed to
summon twenty-five or thirty tal-
ikmen to complete the jury and to
report Tuesday morning.

The supreme court refused the
application for mandamus against
Land Commissioner Rogan,
sought by C. E. Anderson.
The grand jury of Starr county
has investigated the recent trou-
ble at Fort Ringgold; declared
that negro troops attacked the
town of Rio Grande without
provocation. Governor Sayers
has plainly told Geueial McKib
bin that in Texas the military is
subordinate to the civil govern-
ment and that soldiers will be ar-
rested if indicted.
