Mrs. Beulah Silvins of Turney, Mo.,
was in McKinney to visit her brother,
Keen Dunn, and called by the Exam-
iner office. Mrs. Silvins is the former
Miss Beulah Dunn of McKinney, and
was born and reared here. She went
to Nevada and spent a few days with
her sister, Mrs. H. T. Poole. Mrs.
Silvins is a teacher at Abilene. Her
husband passed away two or three
years ago. She loves the profession
and hopes to come back to McKinney
some day. She has never lost her
love for her old home town. We en-
joyed her visit to our office.

Mrs. O’Dell Bilderback and son of
McKinney visited her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. W. E. Peebles, last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Robbie Cook of Dallas
visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil
Cook, last week. They have recently
returned to Dallas from California,
where they have been residing for the
past year.
Mrs. Martha Artman ha sreturned
from Springdale, Ark., following an
extended visit with her sons, Richard
and Warren Artman and their fam-
ilies.
Phyliss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Raymond Perry, is recovering from
mumps.
Mrs. Hattie Templin was among
those attending Sunrise Easter Serv-
ice at Lawton, Okla.
Miss Mildred Mayes spent the week
end in McKinney as a guest of Miss
Doris Jones.
Mr. and Mrs. Loyd McGough and
children of Dallas were week end vis-
itors of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Horace Parrish.
Mrs. Edith Smallwood hnored her
daughter, Omega, with a dinner Sun-
day on the occasion of her birthday.
Present in addition to the family were
Lula Belle and Lora Dean Dorsey and
Billie Ross Chandler.

Friday afternoon at the Perry home
honoring Mrs. Jack Perry.
Mrs. Vancil George was in charge
of diversions and awarded prices to
Mrs. Bob Marks, Mrs. Tom Burch
and Mrs. Harvey Rutherford in the
game series.
Refreshments were served to about
30 guests including Airs. B. W. Hackler
of Dallas. A number of others sent
gifts.
The local baseball club has been
re-organized with J. R. Mayes as
business manager. Gaines ' may be
scheduled by contactng him. The

The VFW baseball team is feeling
happy over the fact that Otho Nitch-
olas will assist its coaching staff next
week. Nitcholas is remembered as
the famous pitching star of McKin-
ney High school. He is now on the
pitching staff of the St. Paul Saints
and drawing a big salary the year
round. Everybody likes Otho, "and
when he is here at home you generally
find him over at the Man’s Store.
VFW officials plan on the second
game of the season to be played
ganized soon promises to be just as
of the contest with the Okies will be
announced later.
The VFW softball team to be or-
ganize dsoon promises to be just as
popular as the hard ball variety.
Plans for the soft bailers will be an-
nounced at the next meeting of che
VFW post. All overseas veterans in-
terested in America’s favorite sport
are invited to take part.

to San Antonio last week to attend the
bedside of their brother-in-law, Bill
Varphol, who was seriously injured
when he fell from an elevator shaft '

LUCAS H.-D. CLUB MEETS
The Lucas Home Demonstration
Club met Thursday, April 10th at the
Club House. The club members have
been meeting in each other’s hove
ever since the yorganized, as the club
house was rented.
The program was opened with the
members singing “Home, Sweet
Home.” Twelve members were pres-
ent. Mrs. Allye Heifner and
Willie Spurgin were hostesses,
licious refreshments of lemonade
angel food cake wa? served to
members.
The next meeting will be April
24th at the club house. Mrs. James
Jones will give a book review, “The
Gauntlet.” All the ladies in the com-
munity are invited to attend.

Rev. A. L. Clinkenbeard had an unex-
pected round with the flu last week
end and could not fill his regular ap-
pointment with the Ehst Christian
Church. He has practically recover-
ed and expects to be with the church
on Sunday, April 20. Airs. Clinken-
beard is spending the week with their
new granddaughter in Kingsville.
