Services Held
Furteral services were held
Tuesday. March 7, in Glade-
water for Amanda Nowell
Floyd, 89, who passed away
Saturday, March 4, at the home
of her daughter in Big Sandy.
Mrs. Floyd was the widow of
the late Thomas Hughey Floyd.
They had been residents of Mt.
Vernon many years prior to
Mr. Floyd’s death in 1950.
She is survived by four sons,
Aubrey, Plumer and Homer of
California and Jarvis of
Plainview; two daughters,
Mrs. Mary Floyd of Emery and
Mrs. Mildred Alsobrook of Big
Sandy; two step-daughters,
Mrs. Verna Floyd and Mrs.
Curtis Penn of Mt. Vernon; 24
grandchildren; 50 great grand-
children, and three great, great
grandchildren.
Services were conducted by
Rev Buck Hammer at the
World Church of God Pallbear

church and interment was in
the Gladewater Cemetery

and Son Chevrolet of Mt
Vernon to supply the county
with a 1978 Chevrolet truck was
accepted by the Franklin
County Commissioners’ Court
during their session held
Monday. March 13.
The bid of $8,029 73 was the
only bid received by the court
The truck is for use in Precinct
Two
Authorization was given for
the advertisement of bids for a
new truck for use by Precinct
Four
The transfer of $8,029 73 from
the Revenue Sharing Fund to
Road and Bride Precinct Two
Fund was authorized, this
being part of the balance of
$20,000 allocated to each
precinct at a previous meeting
A notice from the Peoples
Telephone Cooperative. Inc
was read to the court notifying
of the co-op s intent to increase
rates No action was necessary
Approval was given to the
General Telephone Company of
the Southwest to proceed with
construction necessary to lay
1,031 feet of telephone cable
The section of cable will be
located northwest of Mt
Vernon approximately 1.5
miles north of Hwy 67
The court deleted payment of
a requested $900 from the City
of Mt Vernon's billing to the
county normally made for
one-half of the previous
month's operating expenses for
the fire department This
action was taken until Judge
Bill Meek can obtain more
information on the retirement
fund for which the money was
requested.
Monthly reports were read
and approved by the court, and
minutes of the past meeting
were approved as corrected
General Telephone Com-
pany of the Southwest
has filed tariffs with the
Public Utility Commis-
sion of Texas to imple-
ment the Federal
Communications Com-
mission's telephone
equipment registration
program (FCC Docket
19528). The tariffs have
an effective date of
April 15, 1978. The
proposed changes will
reduce rates for exten-
sion telephonos and 25
foot long cords; will
restructure one-time
charges for service con-
nection, moves and
changes, increasing
some and reducing
others; and will offer
reduced monthly rates
for one-party business
and residence customers
who provide their own
primary telephone in-
strument. The proposed
changes In rates, with
some increasing and
