reported her wallet, currency
and other valuables worth $ 106
were taken from her car while it
was parked at the Texaco Fuel
Center on July 27.
Officers are investigating the
attempted theft of two window
air conditioning units from the
cabins at Cypress Springs Ma-
rina on July . The owner, Pat
Burkhart, told officers that one
unit was found outside a cabin,
and someone had tried to re-
move another unit.

each; theft by check in Hopkins
County, $ 1 (XX) bond, two counts, is-

two other high temperature
records set on another two con-
secutive days.
The records began on July 4,
when the mercury soared to
102°. The temperature then
went to 100", 100*', 101°, 103°
and I03°on July 5,6,7,8 and9
Previous records were set in
1978 and 1990, for July 4 and
5. and on in 1978 for July 6-9.
The temperature reached99"
on
high of 98°, and 100" on July
23, beating the high of 99' on
the same day in 1977.
By contrast, a record low
temperature was also record-
ed. 67° on July 11, beating the
previous record low of 68 of
1978.
The average high tempera-
ture for June in Mount Vernon
was 94°, and the average low
temperature was 73".

Vandals threw a chain over
some high voltage wires at the
Mount Vernon School last week
and caused more than $ 16,000
in damage to transformers and
high voltage switches.
Jim Cowart reported the
criminal mischief, which hap-
pened near the tennis courts.
The cost of the labor to repair
the damage has not yet been
determined.
