Response to Article
Dear Editor:
This letter uddresbes the gross misrepresentations in the
July 19 Edition article concerning the 1991 rape* of Terri
Griffith and Shonda Allen by former Mount Vcmon patrol-
man Rick Henson. Neither Shonda Allen nor Terri Griffith
felt it was safe to report Henson's crimes, not only because
Henson had threatened them (Terri left town within 48 hours
of her rape), but also because Shonda and Terri had no
reason to trust the folks who'd hired their rapist Terri did
report the rape to her then boyfriend, Ricky Jones, a rookie
lake patrolman, who did nothing but verbally abuse her
Mr. Jones' recent allegation, in justification of his inac-
tion, that Terri Griffith was "proud" of her relationship with
Mr. Henson and "had planned to marry him," is pure fabri-
cation. He failed to even mention those things when he was
asked under oath in a ci vil suit deposition about what Terri
had said regarding Henson in 1991
Appurently, to justify his inexcusable failure to report Tori’s
rape to then Chief Jim Pemt, Mr Jones now says Terri wasn't
raped. We know this is to be false because: I) At first, Mr.
Henson denied ever having sex with Terri (and Shonda),
then, just before taking a polygraph test, he claimed he had
consensual sex with both girls; 2) Mr. Henson then failed the
polygraph lest on whether he used force to have sex with
each girl; 3) Mr. Jones was further motivated to whitewash
Mr. Henson’s sexual misconduct by the mutual dislike he
and Mr. Henson shared for Terri’s husband, Tom (they dis
cussed htnng lawyers lo sue Tom Griffith), and because Mr
Jones, himself, engaged tn physically abusive behavior ac-
cording to the sworn tesumony of on of his former girlfriends
Finally, DA Long’s claim that Ranger Boyd had inconsis-
tent statements from two of Terri’s friends is absolutely false
It was Ranger Alvin Alexis who investigated Tern's and
Shonda"s rapes and who testified under oath that he be
lieved to be true their statements that they’d been sexiulh
assaulted by Mr. Henson
