serious condition. It became nec-
essary late Thursday afternoon to
amputate a portion of her right

twenty-five years and operated the
Whitson hotel. The family moved
to Tyler three weeks ago to make
their home.

Judge W. N. Stokes, chairman
of voluntary shut-down commit-
tee of Oklahoma, spoke concern-
ing conditions in tnat state and
told what they hope to accom-
plish by their program which was
inaugurated by exreutive order of
Governor W. H. Murray. Follow-
ing the speech by Judge Stokes,
the operators adopted resolutions
condemning the governor of Okla-
homa for his actions in attempting
to restore equilibrium by declar-
ing martial law.
Senator Tom Pollard, of Tyler,
explained the provisions of his
pipe line bill passed by the leg-. —
islature while in special session
and pointed out that it will in-
sure ratable takings by the pipe-
lines. The extreme penalty for
the violation of this law is the
forfeiture by the carrier of its
charter. Senator Pollard assert-
ed, “This oil steal In East Texas
is the biggest fraud ever perpe-
trated in the history of the coun-
try. Even the Teapot Dome scan-
dal is nothing compared with this
one.” >

to declare martial law and order
a complete shutdown for the field
until machinery provided for in
the new conservation law is set up

A committee consisting of Wil-
liam G. Johnston of Oklahoma
City. W. E. McKinney, of Tyler,
Joe T. Pearson of Corsicana, Capt
J. F. Lueey and 8, A, Guiberson,
Jr., of Dallas, was appointed to
present the petition to the Gov-
ernor in person. This delegation
left immediately after the meeting
for Houston where Governor Ster-
ling ia confined at his home on ac-
count of illness.

favor of a program of moderation

8699 to 3705 feet.

hour through open tubing. Sand
was encountered from 8718 to
