The most remarkable court in the
history of the United States was the
one that sat in Fort Smith, Ark.,
back in the days before there was a
State of Oklahoma. The federal
court had jurisdiction over Indian
Territory and there was a period of
14 years when there was no appeal
from its decisions. The judge was
Isaac C. Parker, appointed in 1875,
who served for 21 years. He became
famous ,as “the hanging judge.”
Twice dbring those 21 years, six
men were hanged at one time, prob-
<< 'ably a record in America. And,
three times, five men were executed
at one time. In all, 88 men were
executed after having been tried and
convicted before Judge Parker.
Hangings were witnessed by large
crowds, sometimes thousands of peo-

PUEBLO, Colo.—Albert Collette of
Pueblo today was named winner of a
season-long football contest spon-
sored by a local radio station
(KGHF).
He picked all but four winners in
the entire season. For his skill, he
won $25, a razor and a year’s supply
of shaving cream.
But Albert, who is six years old
and a first grade student, will put
the razor away for future reference.
Sunday, collection
plates were heaped with $5 and $10
bills. Two deacons passed them out
to members of the congregation, as
Rev. Robert McNeill asked that
“these talents be put to work.” They
will be returned in six months. .
'Voungest to participate is Sumner
Thomas, 6. He plans to buy pecans
from his mother, shell and sell them.
The church is seeking $40,000 for
building improvments.
