Yoakum Bulldog Athletic Director & Head Football Coach Brent Kornegay goes over some things
with his varsity football team during the first day of two-a-day practices on Monday morning.
Over 90 report for football workouts
Most football teams across the State of
Texas took to the gridiron this past Monday
morning for the first day of practice for the
upcoming fall football season.
Yoakum Head Coach Brent Kornegay
welcomed 93 hopefuls to Bulldog football
two-a-days on Monday, 18 of which will be
seniors this season. A total of 28 ninth grad-
ers reported, while 24 sophomores and 23
juniors will compete for playing time on the
varsity squad for the next two weeks.
“The first day went well,” Coach Korne-
gay said. “Our kids understand much more
than they did at this time last year.”
Last year was Korengay’s first year in
Yoakum and he guided the Bulldogs to a

functions so close will allow for a better utili-
zation of City staff time. Included in the new
clubhouse will be a meeting room that will be
available for public functions.
3. Baseball/Softball Field Improvements
- Participation in organized leagues continues
to increase. Although reworking of the exist-
velopment Corporation will act upon the ing area is seen as a temporary solution, pur
recommendation of the Parks and Recreation
Advisory Board at its meeting on Monday, Aug.
9, the day before the City Council meeting.
Based on the limited success in addressing
priorities listed in the 2007 Update, and the
perceived changes in community needs, along
with the economic slowdown, the decision was
made to develop this 2010 Update.
“This will be the last update because, to
continue to receive ‘Project Priority Scoring'
from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Depart-
ment’s Local Park Grant Program, a complete
new plan is required every ten years with the
original Plan developed in 2004,” said Ken
Kvinta, Chairman of the Parks and Recreation
Advisory Board. Other members of the board Jamison Park, i
are Jeff Card, Holly Fishbeck, Tommy Linn
and Cynthia Morris.
After much deliberation, the following is
the final ranking recommended by the Parks
and Recreation Advisory Board, City staff, and
the Yoakum Economic Development Corpora-
tion (YEDC).
1. Swimming Pool Improvements - Placing
a roof above and reworking of the bathhouse is
still the paramount concern. Other immediate
needs are to replace concrete around the pool
area, and determining how best to expand the
lounge area.
2. Golf Course Improvements - A new club-
house is needed to attract more residents and
visitors. The new facility should be erected
