governor of Florida thinks public
-chools should spend less time
waging war on liquor and devote
more hours to teaching young
stem how to get along with people.
Gov. Fuller Warren led a losing
battle to cut out a special temper-
ance program in Florida schools.
He suggested. instead, courses in
publje relations and the art of
handshaking,
"I believe in temperance as
much as anybody, but 1 don't be-
lieve the taxpayers should be
taxed for an agency to propagand-
ize against liquor,** teetotaler
Warren declared.
The Florida chief executive, con-
sidered a master of oratory arid
hand shaking, explained: "I don't
care how much education you've
got in your head, if you can't get
along w ith your fellow man. your
education is a drug on the market."
Members of his official cabinet
voted down Warren's suggestion
to cut iff an annual IM.Iimi state
appropriation for a special anti-
liquor program in the schools.
