for a two-game win over the
hard working Farmers and Mer-
chants Lumbermen. Leslie Gug-
golz is just now finding timber
hard to get.
Every Friday night at eight
these teams are on 'the alleys at
the Germania Park and if you
like bowling’come out and watch
them. Never a dull moment. Any
bowler with a ball for sale can do
a favor for some unfortunate by
getting in touch with Kelly Wal-
ton or Travis Phillipa.

2,000 years old? Probably not,
but some Salida school children
did recently.
The pupils in the high school
Latin classes found some ancient
recipes in their Latin books.
And just to prove their adept-
ness at translation. ■ they selected
a cake recipe 2,000 years old and
translated it.

made the cake arid ate it.
Since there wasn't any need for
bicarbonate, the youngsters con-
cluded that the aincents knew
their "buq(ness" when it came to

PRAIRIE HILI, 4-H CLUBS
A joint meeting of the Prairie
Hill Boys’ and Girla’ 4-H Clubs
Was held at the school house

groups repeated the club motto,
and pledge, and sang ’’Dreaming.”

2:00 Tuesday afternoon from the
ghapel at the Leon Simank Fu-
neral Home and will be continued
at the Wiedeville church, with
Rev Richard Weber officiating
Burial will be ’in the Wiedeville
cemetery.

Charles .Gilbert of Norwich, Con*
necticut, was read at the regular
monthly meeting of the American
Legion Auxiliary1 Friday evening
at the Legion Home. Mrs. Gilbert
will be remembered as one of the
guests of the Brenham Unit last
year when Mrs. Lawrence Smith,
then national president, was hon-
or guest at a banquet held in
Brenham. Anyone wishing to at-
tend the JBryan meeting should
contact Mrs. W. G. Alsobrook, lo-
cal president.
Standing committee reports
were heard. The Unit moved to
lend every aid to the movement
for a Youth Center including fi-
nancial support. ’
Since March 15 marks the 26th
birthday of the American Legion,
the Unit will sponsor a birthday
party at the March, meeting of
the Legion and Auxiliary.
Mrs. M. H. Ehlert, program
leader gave some interesting facts
concerning the universal military
training bill, one of the major
bijte sponsored by the Legion
that has been presented to ’con-
gress.

HAS VALENTINE PARTY
The Eben-Ezer Luther - Deague
held its monthly meeting on Feb-
ruary 11, in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Arnie Gregor, followed by a
Valentine party-
The president called the busi-
ness meeting to order and the 4tec-
retary called ' the roll and feed
the minutes of the previout meet-
ing.
The LeagUe decided to send the
"Mighty Fortress” to all service
men of the congregation. Thia
work will be l»k»n eare of by the
service secretary.
After the meeting gamei were
enjoyed by the League and Valen-
tines were distributed, Mrs. A. J.
Mohr and son, Charlie, were wel-
come visitors.
Refreshments were served con-
sisting of sandwiches, cookies and
hot chocolate.,
