SAN AN'GDLO, Tex., June 17.
Technicians fighting the
Nation's worst polio epidemic
this year were heartened today
by the news that more march of
dimes equipment was on the way.
One of six n *w patients admit-
ted to Shannon Memorial hospit-
al last night came from an far
away a- Kermit. Tex., near the
New Mexico bol'Jer. The patient
wu.-i a l'J-year-old girl.
The new case.* brought the to-
tal number of stricken to 173.
Kight have die*!. One other was
in critical condition.
An air force cargo plane from
<ioodfe||ow Field flew to Monroe,
N. to pick up more equipment
purchased by the National Foun-
dation of Infantile Paralysis with
funds contributed by Americans
in the annual March of Dimes
campaign.
Dr. Kob>'rt Neville, New York,
Associate Director of M*^dical
care for the foundation, joined
the epidemic-fighting team from
Stanfoivl University.
Neville said it appeared that
only a few patients were suffer-
ing after effects in the form of
paralyiia.
He admitted, however, that "we
don't know how to stop" the epi-
demic.
Neville said four more physio-
therapists would arrive soon to
aid the one therapist brought so
far by the foundation and the one
