What schooling we got we went
from three to five miles for. The
first school was about four miles
-from our houm. The gaass was so
high that my father hitched a
team to a log and dragged a road to
the school to make a trail for the
children to follow. Our school was a
10KH feet log house With a dirt
floor and a beef hide for a. door.
A log was cut out for a window.
We built a fire in the middle of
the floor. A hole was bored in the
wall, pins put in It and planks laid
on them served for writing desks.
Split logs with pegs in the round
side for legs, served for seats. 4
5 Game was plentiful from a coug-
else br< down to a cotton-tail rabbit.

Many times when the Indiana

for protection. It was on a high
hill and we,could see in all direc-
