WASHINGTON, April IS.—Just
around the corner from the build-
ing on capitol hill where represen-
tatives ii. congress have their offi-
ces is a small restaurant called
"The Ugly Duckling.”
The place is frequented by nat-
ional lawmakers while congress is
in and out of session to large ex-
tent. but at stated intervals the
place is over-run. One day recently
when we noticed that business was
better than usual for the noon-day
meals, we asked the proprietress the
reason.
"That isn’t hard to answer,"
said, "It is because we have hog
Jowl and greens on the menu to-
day.'
Further questions revealed that
whenever this particular food was
to be included on the day’s ipenu, a
printed slip was sent around to the
office of each senator and represen-
tative known to be fond of toe dish.
The result—the entlra supply is
exhausted within a short time. She
added that the greater part of her
clientele on such occasions were
‘gentlemen frpm toe South."

Jerusalem'Army Wins 1
Battle Against Locusts
JERUSALEM. Abril T!—The Jer
icho district and the banks of the
River Jordan had all the aspects of
a bitter mifrtary campaign t i cently
when soldiers and hundreds of civ?
Ilian volunteers operating batter-
ies of "flaminenwerfer,” or 1
guns, fought an unremitting flve-*
day battle with tens-of-millions of
locusts. v ’ . 1
In the end the Jerusalem army
won and the fields were, black with
the bodte." of the vanquisher! enemy
while great masses of the dead
were washed up on the banks of
the Jordan Where it enters the
