WASHINGTON, June 14
The government accepted today a
sample of a new medical weapon
which It believes may help wipe out
i tuberculosis In this country within
a generation.
A truck-borne, X-ray laboratory,
able to take modern science to iso-
lated rural communities, was pre-
sented to the U. 8. Public Health
Sendee by the General Electric X-
ray examinations department The
unit was assigned to travel through-
out rural areas to demonstrate a
mass chest X-ray program
Accepting me unit, the health
service said in a statement It should
be the forerunner oT hundreds of
similar mobile laboratories, operated
by local tuberculosis associations or
health departments.
Goal of the program is an annual
chest X-ray for every cltisen over
12 years of age in order that symp-
toms of the disease may be detected
in its early stages and given prompt
treatment
