ONCE SAVED...ALWAYS SAVED?
One of the most interesting doctrines of today is
that once a person is saved, that he can never lose
that salvation. He cannot fall from the grace of God to
the point of losing his immortal soul. I have heard
preachers standat funends and preach a man into
heaven that had not seen the inside of a church
building in 28 years, and made no pretense that he
was the least bit interested in Christ or Christianity!
One of the most often heard defenses of this doc-
trine is, “tf a person doe* gp the way of this world
after his conversion, he was never really a Christian
to begin with.” Really? Are advocates of this theory
saying that what you did earlier in life was dishonest?
If you did what was necessary to become a Christian
at the time of your conversion, then you w«re a Chris-
tian, or a child of God, then and forever more! How
can yon aay that my conversion was net genuine? On
what grounds? On the grounds that I renounced my
faith in Christ and went back into the world? Paul had
problems with people (Christians) goii
the world, but Paul never said that thei
version was artificial or superficial (a
4*7-8) Paul eften vnte to Ids brethren
their actions as wrantor sinful, but never did he say,
"Well, you were never a true Christian anyway”!
The Scriptures teach, ataply, that as long as an in-
dividual walks in the light of Jesus Christ (1 John
1:7), the blood of Jesus continually cleanses his life
from sin, and he enjoys the preudse at the eternal in-
heritance. But, when that child of God renounces
Jesus Christ and walks in the darkness of the world,
he is LOST! Consider the foHowing verse of Scrip-
ture, "Christ is become of no effect unto you (notice
now, OF NO EFFECT) whosoever of you are justified
by the law; ye are fallen from grace." I know Paul is
discussing the Law here, but he clearly stated that
these Christians, by the adherence to a system of
works, were FALLEN FROM GRACE! He did not
say that their conversion was counterfeit, he said that
if they applied to the Law for their salvation, they had
loot the only real hope they had! (Ephesians 2:8-8).
Peter said, notice now, “..for of whom a man is over-
come, of the same is he brought into bondage. For if
after they have escaped the pollutions of the world
through the knowledgipof the Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ, they are agaJR entangled therein, and over-
come, the latter end is worse with them than the
beginning. For it had been better for them not to have
known the way of righteousness, than, after they
have known it, to turn freaa the holy commandment
delivered unto them?* (H Peter
Much, much more could be aaid, but the conclusion
to it all is this, that as long as men conform (Rom
12:1-2) their lives and hearts to the way of Christ,
they have salvation (I John 5: rt). When they get out
side of that light, they are lest, fallen from grace.
