TOTALLY IRRELEVANT—A fellow heard that
cigarettes were bad for the heart, so he gave them
up and started eating candy. This made him fat, so
he switched to diet mints. Then he heard that cycla-
mates in the diet mints could cause cancer, so he
started chewing toothpicks instead.
Six months later he died. Of Dutch Elm Disease.

Dear Mr. Hutson;
In this weeks Star, I
read a letter ’To the Edi-
tor’ from Mr. Charles
Marsh. While usually I
would feel that we are
each entitled to his own
opinion and that Mr.
Marsh is obviously’doing
his thing’ by writing such
a letter hoping that he
may see his name in
print, in all fairness to
the Graduating Class of
1970, the School Board
and Administrators, the
parents and friends of the
Graduates, I wish to go on
record as whole heartedly
approving of the 1970
Graduation and Bacca-
laureate Services held in
Burleson this year.
Numbering as one of
the parents of a Graduate,
I was completely over-
whelmed with the beauty
and splendor of the Grad-
uates in their red caps ,
and gowns, the green i
grass on the stadium
floor, the sky as the ceil-
ing and mother nature
providing us with ideal
cool air conditioning
which man could never
duplicate.
As for the man made
parts of the occasion, I
have never heard the PA
system work better.I, for
one, felt no discomfort in
the bleacher seats. Many
a night I have sat longer
and thru much worse
weather watching a foot-
ball game. The entire
program was well organ-
ized and moved smoothly
and rapidly to the end
when our Graduates re-
ceived their ’Sheepskin’.
If someone was mow-
ing his lawn, I for one did
not hear it. It is not that
I am hard of hearing, I
just was really much
more engrossed in the
ceremonies which I had
come to see. I am quite
sure that it was a thought-
less gesture on the
mowers part, either he
did not realize the gradu-
ation was in progress or
else did not realize the
noise would carry into the
stadium and disturb any-
one.
As for building an au-
. ditorium which would
seat 1200-1500 persons,
has Mr. Marsh ever in-
vestigated the cost of
such a project? And has
he ever gone about at-
tempting to help raise
money for a project such
as this? Why doesn’t Mr.

ABOUT THE TIME you think everything is going
fine, things start to happen.
Our production load has increased considerably in
the last six to eight months and more employees
were needed to get the paper to you.
Adding the makeup of the new Crowley This Week
newspaper didn't help things a lot around here, but
we were just beginning to get a routine set when
vacations came along, and one key employee found
she could not work this summer.
So a relatively smooth summer looks now like it
may play heck with any plans me and the missus
might have had for a vacation.
But things are never as bad as they could be.
I was reading Al White's Reflections in the Johnson
County News this week and he reported a problem
that beats all problems.
Seems he was to produce a paper for a school at
Keene and he began to get worried about why the
Keene folks hadn't showed up at the designated time
to get the thing started.
He called and they said they had decided not to have
a paper this time.
Why? Well the janitor had mistakenly scooped up
all their stories and photos and dumped them in the
trash. Boy, that's a problem.
* * *
The janitor didn't scoop up our pictures and stor-
ies, but he could have gotten a few of them and we
still wouldn't have had enough time to properly take
care of the rest of them this week.
Oh, well. Perhaps next week will look a little
better.

Mr. and Mrs. William
B. Ord, 3123 Gladiolus
Drive, Dallas, announce
the engagement of their
daughter Billye Faye, to
Charles Summers, son of
Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Sum-
mers, 124 Gamble Street,
Burleson.
Miss Ord attended SMU
and the University of Ha-
waii and is presently a
senior at the University
of Texas in Arlington.
Mr. Summers will be a
summer graduate of UTA.
The wedding will be in
the Oak Cliff Methodist
Church in Dallas on
August 21.
Marsh organize a com-
mittee to raise the money
and get the auditorium
built? Anyone can write
letters. I would like to
see someone back up his
letters by starting the
ball rolling to get an au-
ditorium
munity.
As far as the present
or future athletic facili-
ties are concerned, I
wonder if Mr. Marsh
realizes that any expend-
itures which have been
made on these have re-
turned themselves many
times over in gate re-
ceipts. A great deal of
our equipment and facil-
ities have been donated by
the Quarterback Club and --
other civic minded __
groups. Has Mr. Marsh i-11
ever associated himself
with one of these groups
to see how he can help?
Those of us who have
attempted to acquaint
ourselves with the needs
of the community and then
made an effort to attain
some of these needs real-
ize there is always room
for Improvements. Any
and all help is appreci-
ated. What is rather hard
to swallow is listening to
someone who just sits on
the side lines and wants
to call the signals. We
need some more 'Injuns'
on the team, not just
chiefs.
Sincerely,
/s/Mrs. Ben L. Ash
