Workouts for boxers 14
and older who want to fight
in the Golden Gloves is
currently underway in Bur-
leson, according to Coach
Eddie Martin, himself a vet-
eran of many tournaments
including a Golden Gloves
championship.
Boxers are working out in
space provided by Allen
Construction on SH 174 just
behind David’s Auto Supply,
Martin said. Workouts are
held Monday through Friday
bracket, Irving MacArthur
won the consolation bracket
in the JV division.
Monday night, the Elkette
JV picked up their eighth
win of the season with a
beginning at 6:30 and con-
tinuing until 8:00 or 8:3Q, he
said.
About 15 are currently
working out, said Martin,
including Jim Morris and
Bart Martin, two other vete-
ran Glovers. Many of these
fighters are entered in the
Guadalupe Boxing Tourna-
ment this weekend in Fort
Worth. The following week-
end the Burleson boxers will
be in action in a tournament
in Joshua.

Monday night, erasing a 7-2
first quarter deficit only to
lose in overtime, 22-20. Pam
Shetter led the scoring with
six points in a game in which
Burleson allowed no points

The freshmen also lost
Tuesday night to Nimitz
although they did lead going
into the second quarter.

first ever basketball tour-
nament in the new Elk
gym-only as far as the
distance between the gym
floor and the athletic trophy
case.

nament last weekend was

Against Nimitz, more than
half the scoring came in the
final period. Burleson had
allowed but six points
through the first three quar-
ters but Nimitz added 15
more in the final six minutes
to give them a more respect-
able score. The JV girls will
go to the eight minute quar-
ters when district play be-
gins late this month.

Girls basketball teams will
be on the rebound tonight
against Everman after both
the seventh and eighth
grades lost Tuesday night to
Mansfield.
The eighth grade fell 28-17 I
and the seventh grade Elket-
tes were defeated 32-18 by 1
the Tigerettes.
That was the first loss of
the seaspn for the. eighth I
seventh grade mark at 2-2. J
Both teams defeated De-
Soto in the opening game of ;
the season. Robin Patty
scored nine points to pace J
the eighth grade to a 24-17
win and the seventh grade ,
won a close 18-16 decision.
In their next games
against Kennedale, both
teams also won. Jan Carter
was high for the eighth
grade in their 37-4 win in
which Coach Elaine Frerking
said the entire team played
and played well.
Shauna Stokes led the
seventh grade scoring in a
23-17 win.
Against Duncanville Reed,
the eighth grade won 22-14
in a good defensive effort
and the seventh grade suffe-
red their first loss 14-10.
Tonight, the seventh
grade plays Everman here
and the eighth grade goes to
Everman and Monday night,
the same teams reverse sites
with the eighth grade play-
ing here.

give the Elkette JV a 9-2
record on the year and the
most victories of any Burle-
son team.
Tracey Alligood had a hot
hand for the Elkettes in the
first two district games,

Wyatt and hitting for 23 quarter of play, but trailed

on to lose 32-26 to Mansfield.
Maria Guiliani led the
Kerr 9 points, in the Wyatt scoring in that game with 14
points.
