NEXT SUNDAY WE REJOICE WITH A SISTER CHURCH
St. John Baptist Church on Dowling is a church with a long and rich history, and one
which blessed us with its traditions and some of our more stalwart members. In recent
years St. John has had problems, and has suffered setbacks. Last month they called as
pastor a man of great devotion to Jesus Christ, and a gifted bridge-builder, who has been
there for many years. He is the Rev. Vernus Swisher, who led the church as Interim
during some of her most tumultuous times. Rev. Swisher will be installed on Sunday,
December 31, at 3:00 p. m. Our choirs will sing, and our pastor will deliver the
installation message. It is a busy Sunday—a Mission Sunday, ending with Watch Night.
You will have much to do that Sunday. But is God, Who will have brought you through
366 days in 2000, worth a full day of praise? You know He is! So sleep well Saturday
night, drink some GatorAde or black coffee, and come to church Sunday morning, to St.
John Sunday afternoon, and to Watch Night Sunday night. Amen? Amen.
Funeral services Dorothy Williams, sister of Thurman Robins, were held Monday,
December 18th at Wesley Chapel AME Church.
