this time with considerably more
success than his last attempt (the
reprehensible Interview With the
Vampire').
In Dreams also shows Jordan’s
capacity to direct a variety of film
genres without losing his own style.
Though not quite as good as his
previous hits (last year’s incredible
The Butcher Boy and the 1992
academy award-winning The Cry-
ing Game), it is a smordasborg of
imagery, color and film exposure
(in the dream sequences).
All the performers do rather
well in their respective roles, but
Annette Bening and Stephen Rea
(as her psychiatrist) stand out the
most. Bening’s psychosis is so con-
vincing, one often wonders if her
character is any more sane than
Downey’s.
Speaking of Downey, his socio-
pathic act is so variable and unsta-

displayed
Designs for the new
Modern Art Museum of Fort
Worth are on display currently
at the museum.
The new architectural mod-
els and conceptual drawings will
be displayed in an ongoing in-
stallation devoted to the muse-
um’s new building project locat-
ed in the foyer gallery of the
museum.
Tadao Ando, architect of the
new museum, was selected in
April of 1997. Ando and his
team have been working on the
designs since the beginning the
project in 1996.
The land for the new muse-
um is located directly adjacent
to the Kimbell Art Museum.
The new land will sufficiently
accommodate the 150,000
square foot establishment,
which will offer more than three
times the gallery space the exist-
ing museum has available.
Construction for the new
museum will begin in fall of
next year and is anticipated to
conclude in spring of 2002.
The exhibit may be seen in
the foyer gallery of the Modern
Art Museum of Fort Worth dur-
ing operating hours of 10 a.m.-5
p.m., Friday, 1 1 a.m.-5 p.m.,
Saturday, and noon-5 p.m.,
Sunday. Admission to the mu-
seum is free.

jin Dreams breaks horror formula
The film’s director, Neil ble that it is hard to laud to any
Jordan, brings his European grasp great extent, but he really does take
of film-making to America again, • up every scene in which he appears,
be it good or bad.
Among the fdm’s most endear-
ing qualities are its incredibly fast
pace (it hardly lets the viewer get
over one thing before it piles anoth-
er on top) and its truly frightening
demeanor. By the end of the film
one begins to wonder if a person
can really be insane enough to in-
vade another’s mind.
In Dream’s ability to actually
frighten puts it above the silly, non-
sensicle horror films of the day like
The Faculty and I Still Know What
You Did Last Summer, while still
remaining plausible and intriguing,
if sometimes a little overblown.
Warning to viewer: if you are ex-
pecting the typical happy ending to
the otherwise disappointing film,
look somewhere else; but if you like
a little variation in your movie-
viewing experience, give In Dreams
a shot.
