Two of the Brahma’s most
popular players, Goaltender
Steve Plouffe and Defenseman
Mark Strohack, competed in the
WPHL All-Star Game in Austin
earlier this month. A trio of the
Brahma’s most lethal goal scorers,
French-Canadians Cosmo Dupaul,
Stephane Larocque and Francois
Albert, make up a line nicknamed
The New French Connection. Four
goals and a pair of assists earned
leftwing Phil Miaskowski selection
as the WPHL player of the week
for the first week of January.

trail the Waco Wizards, the

The inaugural Fort Worth
Brahmas-TCJC night will be
Thursday, Jan 28, when the
Brahmas host their division rival,
the Corpus Christi Ice Rays. A
special discount will be given to
students if they bring a coupon
from this issue of The Collegian.
The first 2,000 fans with a paid
admission will also receive free

The Brahmas are half way
through their second season. Last

Normal registration fees for
team members in either of the races
is $12 per student.
“Right now we have four peo-
ple already signed up to compete in
the 5k. We also have four students
signed up for the 10k. I’ve already
passed out 17 applications, but they
haven’t all been returned yet,”
Morgan said.
”So far, we have only had stu-
dents from NW Campus sign up,
but students from any campus are
welcome to participate,” he said.
The races will begin and end at
the Fort Worth Stockyards and are
scheduled for Saturday, Feb 27, at 7
a.m. Awards will be presented to the
top three teams in each race catego-

Students interested in racing at
the Fort Worth Cowtown Marathon
and 10k Run may walk or run free
of charge if they are among the first
20 people to sign up.
“We received funding to com-
pete again this year,” Ron Morgan,
NW intramural director, said. “They
had to create a new division for the
college teams last year. We compet-
ed against a team of students from
UTA, and well we won.”
Only two races are open to the
student teams: the 10k run and the
5k run.
There will be several other cat-
egories of races at the 21st annual
Cowtown Marathon and 10k Run,
including the 26.2 mile marathon,

who will perform during an inter-
mission.
The inaugural TCJC night with
the Fort Worth Brahmas is sched-
uled for Thursday, Jan. 28, at 7:05
p.m. at Fort Worth Convention
Center. Tickets will be available at
the box office prior to game time,
or by contacting the Brahmas at
(817) 336-4423.

of this season, so Thursday’s
matchup may have possible playoff
implications.
The Brahmas enter the game
flying high on the momentum of a
recent shoot-out win on the road
against the Central Texas
Stampede. In addition to the stu-
dent discount and the trading card
promotion, fans will also be treated
Schick Super Hoop 3-on-3 competi-
tion will advance to the regional
contest at the University of Texas in
Arlington.
Registration for the 5-on-5
competition will close Friday, Feb.
19, with play set to start on
Wednesday, Feb. 22. All games will
be played on Mondays and
Wednesdays at 3 p.m.
“I’m expecting a big turnout at
the basketball events this year,”
Stewart said.
First place winners of each in-
tramural basketball events will re-
ceive t-shirts.
All intramural events are open
to both male and female students as
well as faculty and staff.

South Campus
While basketball fans await the
overdue return of NBA players
from an extended off-season, many
students on South Campus are an-
ticipating the upcoming intramural
events, including the Slam Dunk
Contest.
The Slam Dunk Contest, one
of the many intramural basketball
events scheduled during February,
will be Monday, Feb. 8, at 3 p.m.
No entry deadline has been set.
“The first thing we’ve got com-
ing up is the Slam Dunk contest.
There’s been a lot of interest in that
one. I’ve heard several students
talking about it in the halls this
week,” Paul Stewart, South Campus
Director of intramurals, said.
Other basketball intramurals in-
clude the Schick Super Hoop 3-on-
3 and the 5-on-5. Registration for
the 3-on-3 basketball intramural
ends Friday, Feb. 5, and competi-
tion will begin Wednesday, Feb. 10.

As NBA free-agents scramble
to sign new post-lockout contracts
before training camp deadlines, stu-
dents on NE Campus must also
hurry to sign up for intramural bas-
ketball. Deadline to sign up for the
standard rules 5-on-5 intramural
basketbalk competition is Friday,
Jan. .29.
“Basketball is one of our most
popular intramural activities. We
usually have a great turnout for it,
and we are hoping to have as many
teams competing this year as we’ve
been having in recent years,” Marty
Martin, director of intramural activ-
ities on NE campus said.

teams that participate from around
the metroplex,” Brynn Bagot,
Cowtown Fort Worth Marathon and
10k public relations spokesperson,
said.
“There were a record breaking
number of runners last year,” he
said.
“The race results will be posted
on the internet and published in the
Star-Telegram'' she said.
Marathon officials anticipate as
many as 100 area schools compet-
ing in the 10k or 5k run.
