NEWARK. X. J.. July *> 'OR —
The econil mysterious fire in 48

tional Box anal Lumber Company.
The thn'wilnrrp blaze started
shortly after 11 a. m. KDT one

propane gas tanks went up in
flames Saturday in the city's worst
fire in its history. The company

Fifteen persons were injured.
Firemen said the lumber comp-
uny's yard was filled with pine
wood and wooden boxes and the
blaze would be difficult to bring
under control. A two-and-one-half
story building in the yard was de-
stroyed in a matter of minutes.
The flames licked close to sev-
eral dozen automobiles parked in
the area.

mused by the Hitrrirane coiffure
that >he mistook her own flnger
for cabbage, and gov* it a nasty
whark. She acted as if Lucilla's
hangs had delihoratoly cut her,
and was in a snuffling martyred
mood the rest of the evening.
Of the household, only Hoopy
was enchanted with Ike hairdo, to
much so that she stopped dabbling
her fingers in the goldfish bo*) to
rush over and pat and poke the
curls, sitting on tbe arm of her
mother's chair whore she could
net a better clutch. At Irst. Lucillu
was grateful tor the attention, but
^he was too keyed up to stand it
for long. "Will you stop mauling
rue with your wet hands? Yuu're
ruining my hair."
Hoopy was mnrliirninglj whiny
at bedtime. She demanded the
presence of a dot) named Ermen-
Karde. pretending not to remem-
ber that *he herself had twisted
off Ermengarde's head and aban-
doned her in the park weeks be-
fore.
"Mommy's going to give Sniffles
away," ^ Hoopy blubbered. "I'll
never ss* him a grin."
"Why what ever gave you that
silly idea?" Arthur sat down on
the bed. his voire and body solidly
reassuring, and took his daughter's
hand.
"Mommy «taid so."
Lucillu pushed back her bangs
frantically, feeling the need of
iir. "I only said that if she
v\ on Id n't o to «Ieep—it must he
liter !* o'clock."
Hoopy burrowed Into her fa-
her's chest. He said, "Don't you
inow you have to get a lot of
sleep this week so you'll be able
to run as fast as Snufles w hen he
comes home?"
Hoopy's head popnini up. "I can
already run faster." She glanced at
her mother. "You go in the living
room and Dnddy can sing me to
sleep."
As Lucilla left the room, her
stilt back indicating betrayal, she
heard Hoopy crooning, "One with
lots of verses. Daddy. What's the
longest song you know?"
When Arthur came out. 115 mi-
nutes Inter, Lucilla expected him
to look sheepish. Instead, he said,
"I finally got her calmed down.
She seemed really upset tonight."

INURING the next week her
New You, having ~taited at the
top, worked il^ way down with
startling rapidity. The session with
Beautiful-You's clothes consul-
tant wrought an especially pro-
found change. Just as tu.- Glamour
Guides' exquisite bare leijs were
a constant reminder that You Too
can achieve glorimis underpin-
nings. so Mrs. Tendrilly was the
da/zhngly i hie symbol ot You Too
Can Look This Way Willi Clothes
On. In fact, Mrs. Tendfilly was -so
fully clothed 'he looked as it she
never took off Ik r h.it and gloves,
even at bedtime. Over her arm she
carried a fur cape, and Lucilla
could have sworn it was the same
one he'd -i-en in the atter poster.
She listened avidly, as Mrs.
Tendrilly suggested to hrr: "I'd
strongly advise you to pod, pnd.
pad, e-ip«s-ially the bosoms. Don't
hesitate to wear talsies." At first,
Lucilla was appalled by the idea,
and said so. Mrs. Tendrilly re-
marked briskly, "You don't shrink
from wearing shoulder pads, do
you? Well, then—(lay iJeceiver*

•■imply make your figure look more
balanced -make your clothes
curve in and out as Nature in-
tended. Dorsn't that make sense?"
During the tfrst hours of wear-
ing me cusmoa-uice appui tetuiuce::.
Lucilla felt as if everybody she
passed knew the difference. It
wasn't until halfway through the
evening that Arthur suddenly
caught sight of his wife In profile,
and grunted with surprise.
In expressing himself on the
subject alterwurd, his argument
that the new chest was too biff and
artificial-looking was weakened by
her counter thrust that he hadn't
even noticed anything different for
hours. "But a husband doesn't look
at you the way another man
would," Arthur said, with deplor-
able candor. Lucilla didn't answer
this in so many words, but she
gave off vibrations that made him
nneasler than ever.
ALTHOUGH Deiek Licked a
" * husband's prerogative ot ex-
claiming over a new front, he was
flatteringly attentive, in that he
managed to sit next to her twice
at the Eat-Beanty bar. and said
her new hairdo was enchanting.
In class, as he sifted literature,
art and drama through a veil of
generalities, to produce a filmy
powder make-up for the brain,
his glances at Lucilla seemed to
set lier apart. When he suggested
that the ladies pin a poem above
the kitchen sink, "and beautily
your minds while you're shelling
peas or worrying what to feed
your family for dinner." Lucilla
interpreted his glance at her to
mean. "As if you, with your fond-
ness for T. S. Flint, would have to
bother with such nonsense"
Another time, he said. "If your
husband reads mysteries and is
also a sports fan, he'll he in-
trigued to have you tell him at
dinner that Sherlock Holmes j«
the one who introduced skiine
into Switzerland."
She thought guiltily that the
level of their dinner conversation
.it home would horrify Derek:
Hr.opy saying the strap ot her
skates was too tight: Arthur quot-
ing the janitor's alibi about the
garbage being piled out on the
front sidewalk. Given the compa-
nionship of a man who would play
