settled for an average of 15 cents
on the dollar ot the first six com-
promise tax settlements revealed
under; its new ..pieti bcok policy.
The government claimed Sl'-Mi.-
1)00 in back taxes, interest and pen-
alties. It collected #2H,(i0O and says
it could not have done better.
The bureau's new publicity pol-
icy permits reporters to examine
files on ail compromise cases set-
tied after Aug. 2n.
Under the in*w arrangement, the
bureau ha: made available its files
; a six cases, in two batches of
tlll-ee.
The first three cases, disclosed
Thursday, involved settlements to-
talling $13,000 on claims totalling
$30,000.
The second batch, made public
Friday, involved $140,000 in claims
which were settled for a total of

who 'lived somewhat beyond her
